hi,
just wanted to ask if anyone has been through the same?
just gone through our 1st attempt at ivf. Everything went well and i produced lots of eggs(over 25!) and they were good grades. Sperm was good too but they wouldnt fertilise. Nothing wrong with either of us so were obvoiusly not compatible?
Not sure if icsi is the next step?
has anyone had the same problem? |

Hi Marie
So sorry about your last treatment, I cycled with a girl and the same thing happened but it turned out that her eggs were not mature... not sure if this was the case with you or not, she has since gone on to have a natural BFP and is due in a few weeks...
Good Luck

hi, thanks for your reply.
havent had a follow up appointment yet to find out reasons why they wouldnt fertilise. all they have said is that me and partner both fine but for some reason they arent meeting!!
they did suggest icsi as we have been trying for 4 years but thought we would try ivf first. have an appointment next week to discuss next step.
Thank you again

Hi
This happened to me first time round, though one did fertilse it only divided once. DP has a daughter and my eggs were fine...the sperm just swam away from the eggs...some thing to do with antibodies I think. Anyway second time round we had icsi and the result is below!
Its awful when none fertilise, stupidly I never thought this stage would be an issue, but thinking about it, its probably the most important! I suspect they will suggest icsi next but make sure there are no other tests you need to have before...

ah, they are lovely and that has given me some hope, thankyou. i have a son already and my partner has a child too so we never thought there would be a problem.
i automatically just assumed they would fertilise but at least now i know the problem!
i think that icsi will be the next step.
Thankyou so much again

Marie,
I believe this is mine and DH's problem as we tried for 4 years to concieve naturally with no luck. Nothing is wrong with either of us according to all the tests we have had done. We tried iui 5 times with no success then tried ivf with icsi for the 1st time last July and got a BFP. I don't think my eggs would have fertilised without icsi. The Consultant suggested we try icsi instead of ivf due to unexplained infertility.
Hopefully icsi will work for you when you try again, good luck.
Love Kitty xxxx |

Hi Marie so glad I read your post. Me and DH have been trying for nearly 4 years, have had millions of tests and nothing is wrong, unexplained infertility, isn't it frustrating!!! I am going to start my first round of ICSI in about a week, the consultant advised us to do this instead of ICSI because of the problem you encountered with none fertilising. I think some sperms and eggs just aren't compatible, its very strange! Have you decided to have another go yet with ICSI? Have you had your follow up appointment yet?
Kitty, thanks for posting a reply to Marie, we need to hear happy endings like yours to keep us positive, congratulations!!

Emma,
Thanks for the congratulations.
Unexplained infertility is frustrating isn't it. I know we don't want to be told we've got a problem but when you've had all the tests done and they say all is fine, it's so hard to understand why it's not happening. It will work for you, bet you're so excited to be starting soon. Good luck, are you on the long protocol? Sending you tons of babydust.

hi kitty & Emma,
thanks for the replies, it is really strange that some couples arent compatible isnt it?
Me and partner both had lots of tests too and everything was fine, came back as unexplained!
A friend of mine had the same problem and ttc with husband for 5 years, they split up and she met someone else and within 3 months she was pregnant!
I went for my follow up appointment last week and was told everything fine and eggs were really good and icsi should over come the problem of the sperm not getting in!!
Got to give my body a months break so going to start it on my next cycle, should be end of March.
Hope your treatment goes well Emma, i found it alot easier than what i thought it would be and it went so quickly. Good luck

Emma - It will tell you in your letter from Care if it's long or short protocol? Are you starting DR on day 21 of your cycle? If you are this is long protocol or are you starting injections just after your AF?
Marie, good luck next time, i'm sure with icsi it'll work. End of March will soon be here. I can't wait for end of March cus i leave work on 24th March.

Is it you that has a child already with a previous partner? thought i read it on one of your other threads.
Bet your so exited now, and especially leaving work!! Hope it all goes well

Marie,
We don't have any other children, only little Lewis who is due 23rd April. I am excited, but also nervous. Can't wait to leave work and relax for few weeks before he arrives. Bring on the sleepless nights, lol.

Hi Marie, yes it was me I have a 6 year old son with my ex husband. Good luck with your next cycle March will be here before we know it! I am having the longest wait for my AF this month, typical!!!
Kitty, just checked my letter and I start injecting the day after my AF so short protocol I assume. What would determine which one they do?

Hi Marie,
Injections going ok, started Menopur last Friday and Cerotide last night. Felt a bit rubbish today for the first time but feel better tonight. I have my first scan and blood test tomorrow morning so excited about that.
How are you? In March already, can you believe it?

Hi Emma, Glad your ok. I had good and bad days, and was quite emotional! Feel like ive only just got back to normal, my hormones were all over the place when i had stopped injecting, and ive got to start all over again in a few weeks!! Just waiting for my for my cycle to start hopefully end of next week then start injecting day 21.
Once you start having your scans and blood, it goes really quickly then.
When do you think ec will be?
