Hi Bungies
How exciting for you...It must have been so reasurring for you.
I have had my scan today at Sheffield to check the lining of my womb thickness...so not long now.
I have to ring them on wed so they can tell me when to start the pessaries..dreaded horror from what I have heard.
Take care

Bungies - glad to hear your scan went well! Mine did too - bang on 12w 1d. Fortunately the sonographer had read our notes so the first thing she did was to look for the heartbeat to reassure us. Had to go and walk around for 10 minutes as baby wasn't cooperating for the nuchal test. When we went back in baby had turned a full 180 degrees and was wriggling around like crazy. We could even see its little fingers and nose. This was scan number 5 and I am just so relieved! Now started to reduce the meds this week so will actually feel more like a normal pregnancy when I am not rattling with HRT and clogged up with pessaries.
Melba - well done with the lining. Hopefully not much longer for you to wait! Yes - the pessaries are yuck! Buy lots of panty liners and dried fruit which you should nibble every day (the fruit, not the panty liner!). The constipation can get quite bad - last week I went to the loo on Wednesday, the first time since the Thursday before! Let us know how you get on - with any luck you will get enough embryos to freeze some as well, hopefully for a little sibling.

Hi Caroline,
Glad your scan went well. It is lovely to see something that actually looks like a little person as previous scans were not so clear. It make it all seem more real now doesn't it? My next one is end March and have mid wife beginning of march so roll on next month.
Melba, good luck. Pessaries are well worth putting up with. I actually really struggled to eat fruit even dried as sickness got in way but hopefully you will be ok.
Have not felt too bad today so unless it is just a fluke I am hoping now 12 weeks sickness might be getting better.

Dear Caroline
I haven't been on here for a while and I have just read that you lost one of your twins, I am so sorry to hear that but really pleased that the other is okay.
Bungies I am pleased your scan went well and everything is progressing well.
Hells - how are you?
As for me, I haven't posted as I was to wait until AF arrived before I was matched with a new donor but have had a huge shock. I have fallen PG naturally. Care have put me on Clexane to stop blood clots and pessaries. I have had two scans at Care - last two weeks ago and so I am approx 9 weeks 2/3 days pg. Obviously reading Caroline's post makes me very wary of getting too excited especially with my older eggs. However, I have been very sick this week. I have a telephone ante-natal appointment tomorrow and then all being well seeing the mid-wife at my GP next Friday. What sort of questions do they ask you?
Fingers crossed that we all continue to have healthy pg and achieve our dreams.

Congratulations ladies on your scans, it must be so exciting for you to see fingers and toes etc!
Good luck Melba, Caroline speaks the truth about the pessaries but I'm sure it'll all be worth it for you.
Esperanza........well all I can say is WOW! WELL DONE! I'm delighted for you and hope everything continues to go well.
As for me, well I'm just about to pay to go back on the waiting list again. Am feeling almost back to normal again now and am just trying to get on with things. Been making radical decisions about what we'd like to do with DH's business and whether we can afford for me to go and work for him etc etc. It would be a good time to do it before we have the expense of trying again. Got til the Summer to really decide as my contract for teaching is up to then, but its all looking good.
Take care of yourselves ladies,
Love

Esperanza - what absolutely wonderful news! This seems to happen quite a lot - perhaps because we have stopped putting faith in it working naturally. You are nearly out of the woods now so it is looking good. My first midwife appointment took nearly 1 1/2 hours - a few bloods and lots of paperwork - mainly family and personal medical history with some stuff from DH too - so it would be good if he could go with you.
Hells - glad to hear that you are sounding more positive again and that you haven't given up the fight - hopefully Bungies and I can give you the confidence to give it another try.
Bungies - glad you scan went well too. Ours was in profile so we could even see its little nose. It has changed so much in only 10 days - it looked like an alien then but look like a little person now! We are both still blown away. Our scan isn't until April 7 - but it is our wedding anniversary which we are taking as another good omen.
Melba - Hopefully you will be discovering the joys of the pessaries soon! My last one is Saturday morning which I am sooo looking forward to! It's not just the mess - it's fitting in doing it twice a day for 2 1/2 months which is a pain. All worth it in the end of course - no pain/mess, no gain.

Thanks for your kind words and advice re Midwife appointment. I have been sent a pack of information to plough through before my appointment.
Hells pleased you are feeling better - don't give up but I think you are right to have a short break for your body and mind to recover.
Hi Melba - hope all is going well for you.
Caroline I bet you will be pleased to have finished the pessaries. I was put on them too plus clexane injections every day - so still have a bruised stomach. 18 more injections to go. and 2 more weeks of pessaries. |

Caroline and Bungies are you starting to show yet?
I have my scan a week on Thursday. Still being sick in a morning but at least not all day now. Can't wait to finish on the pessaries and Clexane injections. The needles are worse then the little buselerin ones and I have bruises all over. Fingers crossed it will be worth it in the end. Still haven't told anyone other than work for appointments and parents, though it is getting harder as my clothes arealready getting tight. |

Evening Ladies,
Esperanza - not long until your scan now - double bonus that you will relax more and that you can stop the vile meds! Yes - I do have a little bump now, though it looks more like extreme bloating than a baby at this stage! I've taken to wearing more hipster trousers which fit underneath, though upgrading to a size 12 was a big mistake as they nearly fall off my bum!
Melba - good luck for tomorrow! I expect you will be up super early - I woke my DH up waving a stick in front of his face when I got my BFP. Until he came round he was unimpressed as he was hoping for a lie-in as he had a day's holiday.
Bungies - how is life as a twin-mummy-to-be? I bet you must be showing by now with 2 in there!

Hi guys,
Have not been sick for 8 days now. Hoorah! Still feel bit sick but it is definetely improving. I am like you Caroline, look very bloated or bit podgy. Have bought some great maternity leggings from Next which fit under the bump for the couple of times I have been out lately. Wear them with long top and boots and looks OK. The over the bump jeans I bought are massive so will have to keep them for later on.
Hope everyone OK.

Hi Ladies,
My sickness has also worn off now - thanks be! Sadly the constipation hasn't so I have been given a bunch of stuff by my GP to 'help'. Care gave my due date as August 23rd on my initial scan and the growth rate at my further 4 scans have been completely consistent with this. My sister was 3 weeks early so I am definitely not going to leave stuff to the last minute! Had another little listen to the heartbeat with our doppler last night and it was beating away like crazy - makes me feel so much better knowing that I can check whenever I want. I was just about to start moving the gizmo around in search (which can take 5 minutes as the head of the unit is quite small) when DH pointed at my tum and said 'there' - I tried it and he was spot on! Very spooky! I'm still in normal clothes as I have quite a few pairs of more 'low slung' trousers which are underneath the bulge. I have bought a couple of bits in preparation for expansion, but only jeans and a couple of dresses as they were massively reduced and we have a wedding and party to attend. My sister was appalled when I told her I had bought a couple of maternity friendly tops from Nicole Farhi, but they were only £20 each as they were at the outlet with 90% off. Even DH can't complain when I have £400 of clothes for £40 and I can wear them afterwards too!
Finally beginning to feel more comfortable about it all - haven't had a panic since I used the doppler at 13 weeks. Hopefully you will feel more at ease after your scan next week Esperanza. I'd definitely get a doppler though as it gives you 8 weeks of sanity for the time between scans and is much cheaper than private scans. Mines by Hi Bebe if you are interested in getting one.

Hi guys, just typed long message then stupid internet went down so have to start again!
Melba, congratulations. Am so pleased for you.
Esparanza, glad your sickness getting better. Its definitely worst thing of pregnancy. My due date was 20th august but at 12 week scan was changed to 15th but am going on original dates when work out how far gone as they must be more accurate as ivf. Caroline, I am still constipated too but am trying to eat more fruit but really fancy sweets and chocolate at mo. Think its because I went right off it till recently so am making up for xmas.
Had midwife appt today and was such a relief to hear babies heartbeats. Its such long time to wait til 20 week scan so am lot happier now. Am going shopping at weekend for couple of tunic type tops I can wear with my leggings that will hide all my lumps and bumps. Last couple days definitely showing more but still just look podgy!

Hi ladies,
Glad to hear you're all feeling better and starting to enjoy your pregnancies. Its lovely to hear you all talking about maternity clothes, really bringing a smile to my face!
Caroline, your due date is my eldest sons birthday......he'll be 19 this year......grief I feel so old.
I'm feeling much more positive about things now. Really feel like the pressure is off for a while, if you know what I mean, and just enjoying all the positive things in life.
Take care all of you, and most of all....ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY!!!!
Lots of love

Oh Hells,
Thanks so much! Glad to hear that you are feeling more positive and are giving yourself the time to get ready to try again. At least you have some good stories to read so you know it can and will work for you.
I know what you mean about the age thing! The godson came back from South Africa a week ago after visiting his real parents for a couple of months so we have a 24 year old 'kidult' every weekend until the end of the year again. Back 1 week and DH had to take him to the walk in centre - turns out he has cellulitis. I've phoned him at work today to check it hasn't got worse (can turn into that flesh eating disease!!!) and to make sure he has been taking his antibiotics. I have got strange looks when I've taken him out for lunch as most 'Mums' don't spend an afternoon getting trolleyed on cocktails with their kids - at least that won't be happening this year! The funniest was when we were clothes shopping for him and while he was in the changing room the assistant told me how nice it was to see a Mum interested in what her son wore and helped him choose - he didn't know what to say when I said I wasn't his Mum - he probably assumed I was a weird cradle snatcher!
Have a glass of wine or 3 for me, Bungies and Esperanza - because we'll be having a glass in celebration for you next year when you become a Mummy again!

Hello Ladies,
Can i just ask a personal question?
Will you tell your friends and family that your baby was a donor egg?
I am now just thinking who we will tell the whole truth to.
We have agreed that the child needs to know...but don't know how others will react.
Sorry, i am just having a few jitters.

Hi Melba,
I know this is a hard area for a lot of people but I have always felt that it is nothing to be ashamed of and we told all of our family and friends before we started treatment and I can honestly say we have not had a single negative reaction. I hope it goes well, however you choose to deal with the question.
Good luck with your scan!

Hi Melba,
It is a very personal decision but I told my family and my best friends as I feel I have nothing to hide and it is nice to be able to talk openly to those closest to you. Everyone has been very supportive and I had quite a few tears from friends (let alone family) when we told them the good news. It can get bit confusing though as I have only told work colleagues and other friends IVF but not donor part and for some odd reason my husband only told family and 2 best mates, and all his other friends he pretended we fell naturally. My thoughts are that as my children will know and I want them to be comfortable talking about it they will probably tell their friends which may well be the children of my friends and so they will probably all find out one day anyway. Sorry for waffle.
Glad you are OK Hells. Will be your turn soon but enjoy yourself in the meantime.

Hi Melba
It is such a personal decision and I feel a bit strange answering your question now that I have falled Pg naturally but we had already told people we were having donor eggs as I always felt that beeeing open was best and that secrets have a habit of catching you out.
Hells
I am pleased you are feeling better and yes please have a glass of wine or two for us all.
Bungies and Caroline I hope you are both blooming, it can't be long until your 20 week scans now.
I had my scan last week, in fact I ended up having 2 as my NHS didn't do a transnuchal so we paid for one. All was well and I have come back as low risk of Downs, edwards and Patau's syndrome which given the fact I am 40 is really reassuring. I have been given a due date of 10th September which makes me 14 weeks 2 days todays so I am not too far behind you. My 20 week scan is at the end of April. |
