Well it came....the Day I turned 40...the moment I dreaded when I didn't have little D but could celebrate because I did have him.
We had a very loud and very funny party in the garden and little D gate crashed it and stole the flippin show......playing a plastic guitar while the grown ups sang Abba songs down the mikes all night. He did finally stay in bed so Grandma did eventually get to let her hair down...somehow she ended up looking 30 in my denim jacket which is now 3 sizes too small for me but looked fab on her with her maxi dress...what a hip 61 yr old. In fact both her and my stepdad danced the night away like a couple of youngsters.
So....my message is.....I am very lucky indeed to be a 40 year old Mummy...however....I didn't bring little D into the world, I had to go the adoption route but somehow he is growing into being as big a show off when the music starts as his Mummy. I looked at him several times and thought 'How the hell did you get to be soooooooo like me'?????????
Best feeling in the world. Best thing DH and I EVER EVER EVER did!!
I've said it before and I will say it again.....never fear your IVF results....if you want to be a Mummy you can be a Mummy...babies make there way here in all sorts of ways. Its all about hitting each stage when YOU are ready. Good luck to anyone testing today or deciding to close that chapter and open another.
Oh yeah.....I have also trained him that Mummys birthday lasts for 7 days...so planning a big old week!!!
Much love
Elizabeth

I have to agree, a fantastic post. Been toying with the idea of adoption for a while (2nd failed cycle in May), really just waiting until after our review and cos I've read you need to wait 6 months after treatment. Been reading loads of books, stuff on here and on adoption uk website (lots of negative posts there). Its really nice to read something so positive, you seem to have what I'm dreaming of.
Happy Birthday,
Dawn. x |

Dawn......Avoid avoid avoid adoption Uk until you need it...which may be once a year or never at all. You have to remember that for every post there are zillions (?) of people just being parents and have nothing to put on there. Maybe balance it by going on netmums and see how many birth families are being driven mad by their birth children.
Yes, adopted children can/do come with a past and it may need some more work but honestly my only regret is I didn't do it earlier!!!
They say 6 months but essentially they just need to see that you have grieved for one method of getting your family and are ready to be a family to a child instead of finding you a child. Hope that makes sense.
Hel and Dawn....sometimes I just blurt from the heart on here and I think in some ways I am trying to say FEAR NOTHING...go get your children. I hope that you find the joy I have found however your babies come home to you.
I have lived in your world and never forget how hard it is and often very dark but the light is SOOOOO bright the other side. IVF/Adoption/Surrogacy/stork/gooseberry bush......I wish you your babies!!
Much love and support
Elizabeth

Belated Happy 40th - and BOY, do you sound happy
Bless Little D for stealing your party thunder (and your mum for stealing your jacket!!!), but I bet it just made it all the sweeter seeing him there having a fantastic time.
lol

PS - When I turned 40 last year I chose to embrace it, rather than run from it. I'd much rather have people think I don't look tooooo bad for 40 than that I look ropey for 35 |

Cheers girls...laughing at the fishwife comment kate...nah...diva's maybe...def Mummy!!! How are their Lelli kellys???
Reds....you have a good point about embracing it and I think that is pretty much where I am with it...still sounds a bit scary though doesn't it.....F.O.R.T.Y................yikes!
Wow amanda...what time were you born? I was at 4pm. Happy Birthday chick.....Was it same DOB exactly??? If so must have been your 40th too soo HAPPY 40th......please do not reply and say it was your 30th......will sulk.
Not having quite the spoilt week I had hoped for as we have just realised the impact of our spending to we are being a little more sensible but thats a good thing I think. We go away in 8 weeks...plenty of time to indulge a bit more then.
Off to Take that tonigh though!! If I had stayed married 1st time it would have been 20 yrs today and DH got married on the 6th too to someone else 15 years ago.....Weird hey?! So we share two wedding anniversaries!!! Even weirder I was at a wedding on the exact day he got married in the same town he got married....just not his wedding....that would have been more weird I suppose! Anway, that's not why we are going to Take that tonight but I did wish the 'Current' Mr Hope Happy Anniversary this morning...cheeky! In fairness, my ex DH was my first love and we were really an IVF casualty so actually I do tend to send him a wish in my head today. I can honestly say that I hope he is healthy and happy. He has children now and I have little D so all is well that ended well.
Right better get sorted, us 40 year olds take a little more time.
Elizabeth

What a lovely post and happy belated b'day!
I too turned the big 40 last month and like you was soooo happy to have my perfect boys with me to celebrate my day. DH wanted to be a Daddy before he was 40 and he managed it by 4 days, 3 years ago. I really wanted to have my complete family by then, and I have, which is a wonderful feeling.
A lot of us angels are 40 this year- you, me, Debbs, Kate...anymore?
Take care.
Debs xx |

Happy 40th Birthday Elizabeth, Debs & Amanda
We went to MP the month DH was 40, I still have another 2 plus years to go until mine but it doesn't bother me, just another birthday.
