My LO started with very mild cradle cap about 3 months ago so I started using Dentinox cradle cap shampoo. I would have expected it to clear by now but it's no better, slightly worse in fact. My feeling is the shampoo is a waste of time, and maybe making the cradle cap worse but I'm not sure whether 3 months is long enough to give it to clear up? Anyone any experience of this, any advice welcome

Hi,
In my experience the cradle cap shampoo does nothing to reduce the cradle cap. I spoke to my hairdresser about it as DS still has some at 4. He said that the baby shampoo is very alkaline. He said to use a normal adult shampoo, just less of it.
Interestingly we went on holiday in March and our pool was a salt water pool. DS cradle cap disappeared completely over the course of the week and has only just recently come back. However it is absolutely minor compared to how it was.

Hope this helps.
Jacquie x

PS is Jumparoo still getting some use?

Hi,

I've just started using the dentinox shampoo on very mild cradle cap and all it's done is make my dd's whole head go dry and flaky. The health visitor told me that shows it's working but it looks horrendous! I'm hoping it clears up soon! Any other tips for getting rid would be appreciated!

I hated doing it but i used olive oil too, put it on a few hours before bedtime and then washed out before bed but it does make the cradle cap lift off really easily (not good with a little lady with a lot of hair!!) Did it a couple of times a week and cleared up really quickly!!! Smile

I remember my Mum using it on youngest bro but my HV also told us to use olive oil - put it on liberally, rub it in being gentle over the soft spot of course, then leave over night. In the morning, wash baby's head then rub vigorously with a towel. We did it for a week or so and it worked wonders and hasn't come back. I put a folded muslin or pillow case under her head so oil could be easily washed out but I highly recommend this as a treatment that works!
Best of luck ... if you don't like the smell of olive oil, sunflower worked just as well.

I tried everything going with my DD as she had it very badly. At 4 she still has some but not very noticeable now.
I was told all the shampoos etc may work but if you just leave it alone and resist the temptation to pick at it it will just clear up of its own accord.
I know it doesn't look very nice though especially if they don't have much hair!! x

Thanks for all your advice ladies, I'm going to try the olive oil. Lucy has lots of hair so you can't see the cradle cap unless you look close up, and I'm not a picker so won't pick at it myself, I think that would probably make it sore, hopefully the oil will clear it x

Hi,

I stuck with the shampoo and then applied Waitrose Bottom Butter (which is olive oil based) in between and the cradle cap is gone now and DD's head smells lovely from the bottom butter!

Thanks for your advice everyone!
