Hi buddies,
Thank you for your lovely messages! I came home exhausted and with a cracking headache, but feel that finally someone is looking at the whole problem rather than just bits and pieces (feel we've been running to catch up with our 'only male factor' diagnosis which is now blatantly not true for a couple of cycles now).
George was extremely thorough and explained everything very clearly, but I am glad that I asked DH to read through Dr Beer's site in advance, he thought that was helpful to him.
He's going to write to our GP to ask for some of the more basic tests: ANA, thyroid function, liver function, blood count etc and I'm going to have 2 chicago tests done, the NK Assay and the TH1/TH2 one. He's also recommended that I have a 3D pelvic blood flow scan done at Proscan in Notts, but not until after I've had my laparoscopy to sort out my endometriomas.
I'm still not sure what I feel about the use of ivig and remicade, but feel more reassured now than I did. And although the testing is expensive it feels more sensible than just throwing more money at unsuccessful cycles. Just got to put everything in place to get tested now...
Love Briony
Hi Briony
Glad to hear all went well with your consultation with George. It sounds like he goes through everything thoroughly. I agree with you that it is better to spend some of the money on tests instead of chucking it at ivf cycles that have low chances of working.
Hope it all goes well for you in the future.
cags

Briony
I am glad it went well - you are basically having all the tests I had done. Although I was worried about the remicade for quite some time I am glad I had it (although I don't know if it will help yet of course) but at least I feel like I am trying something. I didn't suffer from any ill effects so I hope you feel more positive about it if you have to go ahead with it after the tests.
Keep us updated and I hope you can sort the endometriosis out soon.
loads of luck
love oonagh x

Briony,
Glad to hear things seem to be going well.
When is your laparoscopy?
I am hoping to have the same tests as you and am now looking forward to my consultation.
Have you already had those blood tests or do you have to wait untill you have had the results from your GP?
This must seem very daunting but hopefully it will provide some answers for you.
Wishing you loads of luck.
much love maggs

Hi girls,
Oonagh, thanks for your continued support, it really does mean so much! Have been feeling a bit overwhelmed about it all and because I'm still not back to my normal self after our last tx failed I'm finding it a bit hard to cope with at times. I think that its a combination of having to work out the logistics of appointments, tests, surgery etc and also being quite worried about what might be found. I know that sounds silly as if we find a problem at least we can deal with it, but at the moment ostrich style head in sand approach is comfortable!!
We're not able to have the LIT or DQ alpha testing done because of using donor sperm, so we are just having to keep our fingers crossed that the donor isn't a match in that respect, but we'll never know. I'm also feeling a bit panicky about how much it is all costing, my IVF fund account is looking a bit sparse at the moment and that's not very cheering (but we'll find a way, have done before!).
Maggs, I had already had a couple of tests done at GP (anticardiolipin antibodies, lupus and thrombophillia) but hopefully she will perform the other ones too and the results will be sent up to Nottingham. I would recommend you do a bit of background reading before as I felt I didn't go in completely cold which helped (and I printed out the Dr Beer 5 categories bit for DH to read through too). Good luck to you too!
Love Briony
Briany,
nice to see you cracking on with this new testing. It feels a little odd starting testing again after supposedly having a diagnosis (male factor with us, the same as you) but they seem to be having good success with this dx/tx so hopefully they will get to the bottom of things for you. I am sure the fact that you conceive but have chem pgs points to one of these immune things, and they can sort them.
Good luck with all the testing, we had TH1-2/NK cells and DQ alpha, not the blood flow one (no idea why not) and my TH1 seems to be the culprit, so I have remicade booked for 29th Jan, then a couple of natural cycles to see if DH's wrigglers can make it through with less of a battle zone going on in there!

Look forward to hearing your results,

Nic xxxx

dear briony,
I did a lengthy reply earlier but then wiped it all.
Glad you found your appointment helpful. I'm going on 20th Jan to the Park. If not mentioned I;ll be bringing up immune issues too. Like you I dont know if I'll go thro any treatment if a problem is found but dont want to throw away money and effort if no chance of a positive.
Hope to catch up with you on Wed. I;ve counted you in.
Helen U
