To all the new ladies - Welcome...Once I have read through all the posts and know a bit more about everybody I will be back to post personals....

To all my old girlies I'm sorry I have been absent for a bit, I will try and be a better buddy in future..I am saying my prayers every night so I get my PMA back and I will be back at the library to get my "cosmic ordering" books so if you need an order putting in let me know and I'll see what I can do...

Hello there

I think I've found the right thread now ...hooray! Thanks for your lovely welcome...Really pleased to be here...I am Sophia, 40 years old ( 41 in april) and hoping to start a fresh cycle in Nottingham in Feb 09...not long to go now..eeek!...I have had all the tests done there are - including immune testing as I have had 5 mc's in the past...but no answers as to why..My previous consultant in Birmingham thinks it's just my age...I somehow won't accept that as all my hormone levels are absolutely fine. I know there is a good chance that my eggs might be a bit knackered....but surely not every single one of them! So here is to an optimisitic, happy 2009 with lots of BFP's for us more 'mature' ladies!

I have had a successful cycle in 2005 resulting in our lovely boy Yannis who is now 2 1/2 years old and keeps me very busy.
Back then I had a good response to the drugs ending up with 11 good embryos...so hopefully I'll end up with some this time as well...Of course a few years will make a difference and my antral follicle scan in September 08 only showed 8 follicles...My consultant in Birmingham thought that wasn't great...well, we see!
In Nottingham I found the team much more encouraging and positive. I am not naive and I have been on this journey long enough to know the facts...yet, being positive and believing in the possibility of little miracles does not make me stupid, right?

I am now just waiting for my protocol to arrive in the post and of course for AF to turn up in about 3 weeks time.
I will be on the short protocol ..so all in all it will be quite quick...apart from the 2ww!
Has anyone any good ideas as to what you can do- maybe nutritionally to improve egg quality? I have been on some other forums and some swear by DHEA?. Not quite sure what to think about it..Has anyone tried it at all?
Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you all a bit better and hopefully find some cycle buddies to keep each other sane!
You all sound lovely and very supportive. That makes this rollercoaster so much more bearable, I think!

Sophia

Hello all - Welcome Kathy and Sophia, and lovely to "meet" you too Shanders!!

I've only been on this thread a little while but everyone has been SO lovely and welcoming. If lots of PMA can help us then we are all in the right place!

Sophia - I'm sorry I can't help on the DHEA front - I had to google it to find out what it is! I have been following guidance from the Fertiity Diet by Sarah Dobbyn and the Zita West book in terms of foods to eat or avoid to try and help - I'm just a couple of months younger than you. It's difficult to say at this stage if it has helped my egg quality as I got 2 grade 2's last time, and the same on this cycle, but DH's count has gone from 14million to 100 million!

What I can help on is with regards to Nottingham. I have satellited to Notts for my EC & ET and found them to be lovely. George Ndukuwe (sorry George if my spelling is wrong) did my ET on Saturday and he was so patient, helpful and really took his time, explaining what he was doing each step of the way. I also found the nurses very helpful (I've been in quite some pain since a difficult EC and they were really understanding and reassuring) along with the embryologists and the consultant who did EC. Everyone has really explained things comprehensively, answered my numerous questions and treated me very well. Despite the fact this cycle has been much more painful, I have been really happy with my treatment - my stubborn eggs were just too lazy to come out! Rolling Eyes

so, welcome and sending lots of PMA to everyone!

Hi Pika

Thank you so much for your reply...and well done for getting to ET....In the past I took that bit for granted...but at the moment I am just worried if we get any embryos suitable for transfer.

I am sorry your cycle was a bit painful...but it sounds very reassuring that the team was so lovley and explained everything...That bit has been missing for us in our previous clininc...we were never really sure what was happening and if it was okay or not.

So you are on the dreaded 2ww! Will you be at home for the duration or are you going back to work?
I hope you'll find the space in your head to relax and enjoy a little...The fact is you have one or two little ones trying to nestle in right now...and if they do, then you'll definitley need as much rest as you can, because you'll definitely have your hands full in 9 months or so!

Could I just ask you a couple of questions? Were you also on the cetrotide protocol and if so how did you find it? Did you have a good response, many side effets etc?
Not quite sure what to expect..so I thought I'd ask a few questions...
By the way, we are also seeing George Ndukwe and we really liked him. Hopefully this is going to be a great year for all of us!

Take lots of care and fingers crossed....
Sophia

Hi there, Ladies,

Lovely to see you all here. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Shanders - Its great that you have a good vibe about this new thread. D'you know what? So do I!
I have sprinkled it in baby dust. Wink

This is just a quick message for Sophia as i should be running Olly's bath!

I knew I had read something on DHEA recently, so I did a search. There's about 5 pages worth! You just have to click on the magnifier [top right], fill in the space with DHEA, leave the rest of the page as it is and then click 'search'
Found this link - its very interesting... Hope its useful.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dehydroepiandrosterone

Will try to post personals soon. Love from Maryrose xxxx

Hi Girls ... it's lovely to have new members on board.

Shanders - so pleased that you have found us again. Please don't go disappearing from us even if you want to keep some of the details of your cycle off-line ... we want to know your progress and give you the support you might need! Most importantly, I want to be one of the first to know of your BFP! I have a great feeling about this thread too ... especially as Maryrose has sprinkled it with baby dust!

Sophia - I know some American clinics prescribe DHEA to their older ladies, but I don't think that it is normally used in the U.K. I think it can affect hormone levels, so it's best to ask your consultant to see what he thinks. I did ask one of my consultants and he advised me against using it.

I don't think that there is a lot one can do improve egg quality (as the quality is determined many months and possibly years before cycling - I could be talking b*llocks here!), but it will help to have a healthy diet and lifestyle. Eat plenty of protein, fresh fruit and vegetables; drinking plenty of water and milk during stimulation (some ladies drink whey protein drinks to increase the protein intake during stimulation - the theory being that eggs are made of protein, so a higher intake will help to produce more/better eggs); and supplement with a prenatal vitamin (with folic acid) just to cover any vitamins your diet might lack.

Some Care clinics use Dexamethasone just prior to treatment to try to improve the response in older ladies (not sure if it also serves to improve the quality of the eggs too).

Pika - how are you? Hope that the 2ww hasn't driven you insane yet. Hope you are not analysing the signs/twinges (or lack of them) too much ... I know it's easier said than done! Try to relax and give those lovely embies a chance to implant and hang on for the long haul!

Love to All,
Lyn

Well girlies I'm back to do a few personals..Can't stay too long as I have the headache from hell - I don't know whether it was the stress of going back to Weight Watchers or the acupuncture...They both went well anyway but I haven't been able to shift this thick head - DP says it will take more than a few paracetamols - I don't know what he means......Anyway please bear with me - I am poorly you know!

Pika.....I know you are in the dreaded 2ww...Hope you are been looked after and pampered...Are you having the full 2 weeks off work, I know you said your colleagues were very sympathetic....I can't wait until I'm in your position, I know its stressful but its also very exciting knowing you have your little embie(s) on board......I shall keep fingers, toes, legs and eyes crossed for you.......x

Sophia...Hello hun, I know you are going to be starting in Feb at Nottingham so you never know we might be there at the same time....You'll know its me cos I'll be the one flicking through all the glossy mags like someone demented - it's the only chance I get to read them - I've been banned from my local Tescos, they said something about library's and shops - don't know what they mean!.....Anyway, hopefully we will be able to give each other lots of help and celebrate BFP's together......x

alibluebell....It's nice to have you in our little gang especially as you are expecting twins...I bet you are so excited....Do you know what you are having or is it going to be a surprise?..I'm not sure what I would do in your situation, part of me thinks I would like to know so that I could get a bit organised..I shall look forward to the next few months folowing your progress......x

Cam6....Not sure when you will have chance to get back on here but I am so excited about seeing the twins - hurry up and send a piccie!!....big ((hugs)) to you all....x

Cazza....Bonjour my little french ivf pal.....How is life in french france?...Not long to go now and your little girl will be in your arms....It seems such a long time ago that we were going through the 2ww together and now there is only a few weeks to go - or she might come early!!!...Keep us up to date with things....x

Megg....It won't be long till you are on the rollercoaster again, February will soon be here...This is going to be our year!!!!!.....Keep thinking positive and this time next year we will be holding our own little babies....x

Daisy....Where are you lady, you've not replied to my email, answered any of my calls or texts - ok slight exageration, but you don't seem to have been around for a while...I know you have been busy over xmas but you must've de-fuzzed everybody now.......Keep in touch hun.....x

Maple....aka Lyn....How are you lady?.....Have you any news on your next treatment?.....2009 IS our year....It is going to be soooo exciting when we all get our BFP's......The baby cloud is filling up at the moment so they will all be ready and waiting for us in a few months........x

Maryrose.....Do you have a clone or two?...The reason I ask is I can't believe how you find the time to do everything you do at home, look after Olly and DH AND contribute on so many forums.....You are really superwoman...I take my hat off to you - well I would if I had one on...Your amazing lady!....Hope you're feeling better now......Is 2009 going to be the year for a brother or sister for Olly - I think it could be......x

Well, I think I have mentioned everybody - hope I have.....Just one last thing -

CatLady...Don't know whether you still read the BB but if you do I am sending you the biggest ((hug)) ever...I think about you a lot and hope you are both being kind to yourselves....It would be lovely to hear from you but I fully understand if you need to keep away....Take care hun.......x....x....x

Well girlies....Thats me done for now....I'm sending you all some PMA PMA PMA.....Look after yourselves

Wow ... I just went away for a couple of minutes (to make my DH a sandwich) ... so many ladies have posted in that time!

Cazza - Pleased to hear that you are ready now ... I am sure your little girl is ready to meet her mummy too. Not long now ... hope that your consultant will be able to tell you when the big day might be. I am so excited for you, and I am counting the days down for you.

Shanders - I have missed you and your humour ... you always manage to make me cackle ... my DH thinks I'm nuts when I get on this BB! Boy, you've done well to catch up. Unfortunately, I have stumbled over a huge hurdle ... I have been advised by my consultant to have an operation to remove my bloody fibroids, so I will be delayed and I don't think I will be ready to cycle before the Summer. I am frustrated with the delay (as I don't have that much time to waste) and scare of the major operation, but I will battle on, as that elusive BFP is worth fighting for!

Maryrose - I am amazed too at how you managed to juggle everything and still find time to give us your support ... you truly are a Superwoman!

Sorry I can't post to everyone. DH has got a panic on - he was given £60 worth of vouchers from our neighbours at his 50th birthday party and he can't find them! ! ! Shocked He had them on Saturday when we went shopping, but now they are awol. S*it! I hope he hasn't lost 'em.

Lyn and Shanders - If I gave you a breakdown of my day today, you would see a conspicuous absence of 2 things..... housework [!] and meals for me! I have to eat on the run these days.
Have had nice meal tonight though.
OMG! have had a rushy day though. Funny story to tell you all later about Olly's big feet. You weren't wrong, Lyn, when you said his feet were like ducklings, recently. [Not webbed though!].

Pikachui - this is for you as I think you are our 1st 2 ww'er...

Lots of love to all from Maryrose xxxx
PS Oh dear, poor Dh looking v despondent. Sad If it was me I would be turning the house upside down. I can't stand not being able to find things.

Lyn - just thought Id add once more before Im off to bed - might sleep - might not - but your comment about my little girl wanting to meet her mummy bought tears to my eyes....SO NICE!! Either severe lack of sleep or overdose of hormones....not sure which.

Night night all

Hello

I am Roch and have been kindly invited on by Lynn. I am hoping to be one of the lucky ladies. I want to see lots of success stories. Hoping soon to go for my second IVF (already had one when I was 41 somewhere else). I am now 44 and want another go but will try CARE. Hopefully I will get to have this chance. My egg quality wasn't good when I had my first ICSI at a different clinic. I will have acupuncture as tried this over a year ago and it was very good. I also have reflexology. I am staying positive because I know hopefully I may have a successful IVF.

Love from Roch to all of you!

Maryrose - hope that your DH has found his birthday vouchers (and that you didn't end up finding them for him)! I bet it was somewhere really obvious like his trouser/jacket pocket!

Roch - a big welcome to you ... you're now the 4th newbie on this lucky thread (the rest are Pika, Sophia and Kathy) ... lots of 'new blood' for the new year! It's going to be a bumper of a crop of BFP's for the new year!

Roch - where did you have your first treatment and which Care clinic are you with now? I have found Care (Sheffield) have been fantastic compared to my first clinc in Leeds, and also, I got better results from Care.

Pika - I am keeping everything crossed for you ... we want to see you get that first BFP for us over 40's this year!

Daisy - Hope that your treatment is going well. I do understand that you want to keep details of your cycle discrete, but please do let us know how you are.

Megg - hope you are feeling better, and your body is preened to a tip-top condition for your next cycle.

Cazza - please let us know how you get on at the consultant's ... I'm desperate to know when our next new year baby is due ... I am so excited for you.

Ali - how are you and the twinnies doing? Hope you are not getting too uncomfortable (like Cazza) and is still getting some decent sleep (wishful thinking?)

Cam - hope that you are recovering fast from your C-section (hurts just thinking about it), we heard that the twinnies are absolutely gorgeous ... we want prove! Smile Can't wait to see photos of them!

Shanders - hope that thick head have gone! Good luck with your mission to lose some weght ... I should be doing the same, I have piled on another half a stone over Chrismas!

Pip and Cat Lady - hope you are both o.k. I think about both of you a lot.

Love to everybody (including Looloo, Littleimp and Jules and their lovely babies),

Good morning everyone!

Welcome Roch - I'm with you on the acupuncture - I've had it since Sept and had it before and after ET - my lovely acupuncturist saw me at 7am! We shall see in about 11 days if it helped but I enjoyed it anyway!

Hope you managed to get some sleep Cazza - you sound as though you are all nicely organised for your baby's arrival, you must be really excited!

Lyn, I'm so sorry to hear about your operation. Sad it must be so frustrating to have to wait even longer for something you so want to get started on. I know after my first BFN the wait to start the next tx seemed SO SO long, and it really wasn't. Here's hoping for a swift, successful op giving you better chances of a BFP.

Shanders - good luck with the Weight Watchers - hope the headache is now better. Re: work, I'm not going in this week, but might work from home thurs and fri, tum cramps and bizarre waterworks/bladder situation permitting as I can do so gently, couple of calls, few emails etc. Next week, I'm probably going back but will ensure I don't overdo it. It's funny, this time I've found I've not been quite as focussed on the 2ww, I think it's having one BFN under my belt and the fact I haven't felt so well this time after EC, I've kind of concentrated more on feeling and getting myself better. I don't know if this makes sense!!??

Sophia - I did a long protocol, with Naferelin nasal spray to down reg, and gonal f for stimming. I think the cetrotide one is a short protocol is it? On the long protocol my side effects were mainly I was really hot - especially in the night and barely slept for about 4 weeks. I also had a peculiar numb big toe LOL!! I still have this and have been trying to think of advantages if it is permanent such as being able to buy bargain shoes that are a touch too small!

Ali - hope everything is going well with you.

Lyn & Maryrose - thanks for the 2ww good wishes, I'm trying not to do TOO much IWSA (Irrational Waiting Symptoms Analysis - LOL) which strangely enough, the cramps etc after EC has helped, as I'm still attributing everything back to that. I suppose it will be next week when those have all gone and I get twinges that I will be really tuned into those!! I figured that if I'm at work, I can't think about it so much.

Maryrose - hope DH found his vouchers. I would burrow round the house, causing mayhem and debris until I found them as it would drive me mad!!!

Hope everyone is good today, I'm off to doze in my sofa nest.

Take care..

Morning ladies....

Lyn...My thick head is much better today thank you, but I am feeling a bit chesty - Hope I'm not getting that awful bug..Will have to get DP to rub Vic on my chest (vic is my 21yr old neighbour so I'm sure I'll feel much better).....As for the weight, well where that is concerned I am like Tom Cruise - Mission Impossible!....I hadn't been for 4 weeks so was expecting a large gain - I have had quite a few meals out over xmas/new year and my birthday - I had only gained 4 pounds - now I know to some people that would be a lot but last year over xmas I gained 9.5lbs and the year before 8.5lbs so I was well chuffed...I know some people only need to gain a couple of pounds and it shows but believe me I can gain 4 pounds on my little finger and it wont show..I always have to lose about a stone and a half before anyone can tell - think I have incredibly heavy hands and feet!!

I'm sorry you are having to get rid of the fibroids before your next treatment - it's a pain but if it means you stand a better chance then I know it will be worth it in the end....I have a bit of endometriosis but the doctors told me a few years ago it wasn't going to affect my chances of having successful ivf - but part of me thinks should I have had it removed when I had the chance?...It's a bit late now, as like you time is marching on and I can't really afford to put my treatment back - well I don't want to anyway.

Whatever you do hun at the end of it you are going to have a little bundle of joy - there is a baby up on the cloud for you and if they have to wait a little bit longer for you to claim them then so be it - you will get there in the end......Just think your fibroids might weigh half a stone so thats your xmas weight gone in a jiffy!!!!!

Anyway girlies, my crumpets are beckoning me - and no thats not my DP and the neighbour!

PMA PMA PMA PMA and big ((hugs)) to you all........

I must ask, Maryrose how do you do all the fancy stuff on your posts?...You seem to be able to put lots of coloured sparkly things in them.....I just about manage to type - it must be by four stone fingers getting in the way........

Must just add a BIG welcome to Roche.....the more young oldies the better...(we are not old it is just others are younger)

Morning, Ladies,

Hahaha, Shanders - how your post made me laugh! Laughing Laughing Especially the bit about your 21 year old neighbour being rubbed on your chest! I TITtered - tee hee - unintentional pun!

I nick the pics from Photobucket, hun.
You just register, search for images and then save them to your albums on the site. To transfer them to the BB, you have to click on the image code underneath the pic. Its a bit odd, as you just used to have to click normally and it came up with 'copied'. For some reason though, in last few days am having to do the right click copy and paste thing.

You must make sure you resize em though, if they are big. You do that through 'edit'. The size you need is something like 320x240. I'll have a proper look next time I am on. A lot of the ones I use on here don't need resizing though.
If you put a big one on, it is a sodding nightmare, as it makes the page so big that you can't read the post without scrolling back and forth. I test mine on the admin forum, quite often, before I post em, to make sure they have resized.

Lyn and everyone - I DID find those darned vouchers! But guess what? You know how i am a devotee of cosmic ordering? Well, I asked [cosmically ordered] the finding of them and 10 mins later I had 'em in my hand! Shocked I kid you not.
Was quite worried that DH had dropped 'em in Shrewsbury on Saturday, as he had them in his pocket. Turned out that they had got buried in a pile of paperwork on our island unit!

And Pika - yes, if they had been mine and lost, that is exactly what i would have done! I would have gone into a frenzy!

Well, must go as loads of jobs waiting for me. I am a very naughty person!
Olly was up at 2.30am this morning crying unconsollably. I think he is teething again. He bit my upper arm this morning. Ouch! I almost jumped out of my skin.

Seems happy enough now though. He's chucking all his plastic balls out of his playpen and is delighted with the noise they are making as they skitter accross our wooden floors!
He's wearing a new maroon top, bought in the sale and unbelievably, its for a 4yr old! Shocked He looks gorgeous in it. Very Happy

Love to all from Maryrose xxxx

Wow what a busy thread!

Welcome to all of you and hello to my old (not old) buddies!

My posts are always brief as I am still working - 4 more weeks to go!

Lyn - I am sooooooo uncomfortable right now. 26 and a bit weeks but I am carrying like a 40 week singleton! So Cazza - you have my sympathy. Of course I want these babies to cook for as long as possible but 12 more weeks of feeling like this? And bigger? And even bigger? I know my maternity leave will be spent doing virtually nothing and so I am pleased we have tried to get organised by the end of Jan. Nursery almost ready - carpet goes down in 2 weeks then I can start making it pretty.

And to whoever asked about the sex of the twins - two boys!!! We are thrilled as we have a DD who is 12 so a bit of male blood in the family will be great ( in addition to DH of course!!)

Pika - hope the 2ww is going well for you. Take it easy but also don't stop living! I went a bit crazy in my 2ww and even went sailing and played frisbee and partied a bit - I think I just hoped that if it was going to work - it would work. I rested completely for the first 3 or 4 days then life just had to get back to normal. I remember being in a Board Meeting and getting a sharp pain - about day 5 or 6. I thought - mmm maybe that's implantation. Well that's great sitting here among all these suits - I can't wait to tell my baby/ies this story when they are older!

Anyway - take care everyone and keep positive. PMA to all of you at whatever stage you are at. As we have said many times before - we lovely ladies of a certain age can still have success and I have really high hopes for you all in 2009.

Lots of love

Ali

Shanders - you do have a way of making me laugh and go teary in one post! If only these bloody fibroids weigh half a stone ... it will be great to lose the weight by having the op! I think, the surgeon will have to suck out all the blubber round my tummy to get that sort of weight off! Laughing I think the stress of having the op might actually do the trick though!

Maryrose - I knew that YOU would have found the vouchers for your DH ... typical, eh? I hope that he will divi up some of those vouchers (hopefully, they are not for a man-only store) so that you can buy something nice for yourself as a reward! Please give cutey Olly a big hug from me ... hopefully, you won't be bitten by him again!

Pika - that sofa nest sounds really comfy for nestling/nesting in ... hope that your DH is giving you loads of pampering too ... milk it while you can! Glad to hear that you are off work ... so that you haven't got the work stress to contend with.

Ali - you poor thing ... you sound to be so uncomfortable, 'only' 12 more weeks to go! When are you planning to finish work, so that you can put your feet up and concentrate on incubating lovely your babies? Please take good care of yourself and the twinnies.

Bye for now,
Lyn

Lyn - Ah, no. Bless, I wouldn't take them off him even if he offered [which he won't]. I know how he loves his fancy shirts!
Am just glad I have found them.

Must go. Trying to work on the pc AND make Olly's dins! Recipe for disaster, LOL. Rolling Eyes

Love Maryrose xxxx

Maryrose....You know I love the cosmic ordering as well - I'm convinced it works...It's another thing for my DP to laugh at along with the acupuncture....

I hope your DH appreciates your help - or maybe he will blame you as you told me you hadn't kept up to your housework and if you had he might not have lost them in the first place!!!!!!

Last year when my DP was doing overtime at work he was also given shop vouchers for every hour he did as an added incentive...We bought a flat screen tv and various other things with them so they were worth having..Anyway at christmas I tried to buy my mum a kettle from Comet with them but due to the Woolies situation they wouldn't accept them..I was fuming..I phoned the issuing company who said they were trying to resolve the situation but I should still be able to use them in B&Q - its not every day you need things from there is it?....I waited a while and kept checking on the website and the company would only refund you if your vouchers had been purchased after November - we'd had ours longer than that, and in the mean time B&Q were refusing to take them..I ended up going into Woolies and they said they were still taking them so we had to spend them there...Thank god we only had £30 cos I was really struggling to spend them..There is only so much pick n mix you can eat and how many times do you want to buy a couple of shop shelves?....What this has taught me is don't keep your vouchers for months..Get them spent cos you never know what is going to happen to the shop in the future.

On that note I will leave you in peace...The ironing board is calling me.........

Cannot believe I am on here again! Got Olly on my knee so excuse mistypes.

DH just sent me a text saying now that i've found them, can he go shopping on Saturday?! Going to text back and say 'Yes' if he takes Olly with him! I've got a deadline for this piece of work looming....

Yes, it was me that buried them, BTW, when I was tidying up for people coming round on Saturday evening! [still haven't told you the TREX sandwich story, Lyn]
But, its his own fault for putting them somewhere daft. What's more, he's got no recollection of putting them there, so its not just me that's addled round here!

Shanders - I have just realised that I haven't answered your question re our frosties. It will take me more than a few mins so will try to post again later. Got to go out now. Dunno what is up with me today - think I am going for the most posts in 1 day record! Confused

Love to everyone, from mad Maryrose xxxx
