Hutchy obviously its years since i had a baby so things are different is there not anything that mimics mothers heartbeat that you can place in the crib to see if that settles him more? dont even know if such things exist,- lovely to see your new ticker...x janette...

Hutchy - It sounds like your little fella just wants to be close to you. Needing lots of mummy & daddy cuddles. Just keep cuddling & resting whenever you can. Not forgetting your's & DH's meal times too, This will help with your energy levels. Don't worry about anything else.
I sometimes wonder if babies that arrive in a bit of a rush EG Emegency CS, if they find their new surroundings a lit more scarey. It's like they haven't come into this world through their own doing, they've needed some intervention to ensure all is well with baby & mummy.
It's not surprising really that Bobby wants to be close to you all the time.
You could try when he is asleep to lie him on the bed next to you, (not in the bed). It will mean of course that DH will have to vacate the bed. It might be enough for Bobby to know that you are really close, you'll also be able to touch/stroke him. It might only last a little while, but keep trying regularly. It might aid you to get a better quality sleep & also DH too. This means DH will have more energy to do more HA!
I used to put pillows on the edge of the bed Zach's side. paranoid he would fall off, but to be honest he wasn't going anywhere at such a young age. I would then put a couple of light blankets on Zach depending on the room temperature.
You will get lots of advice I am sure. There really is no right way at times. The right way is often what works & what feels right for you. Just take each day as it comes & enjoy.
Thinking of you x

Sorry no more personals, but thinking of you & hoping all is well.
I'm just grabbing a few mins whilst Zach is asleep, guess where?? In the washing basket with his teddies.
It's a first & a priceles moment, so funny & cute x

Love to everyone & Hugs to those that need them xx

Hi Hutchy, I'll try to dig out the safe co-sleeping guidelines. I know them in relation to breastfeeding, but not sure about how it translates as I think you're formula feeding??

As Nicky says, you just have to do what you need to get through. And I think after a very long wait and a loss too our expectations of ourselves are higher and that makes it harder somehow - its quite well known that mothers after assisted conception are at higher risk statistically of pnd and anxiety - I'm not all that surprised by that tbh. Its just that we've waited so long and tried so hard that we expect to feel differently sometimes from the reality - and that is that new babies are unpredictable and hard work.

I also think Nicky is right that an emergency section can be quite difficult for little ones too (as well as mum) and adjusting to the big new world is a big thing for them. Some babies take longer than others to come to terms with it all and really, really need their mums (and dads) to feel safe and 'right'. I've really found as time has gone on that meeting your baby's needs, however you have to do that, is fine as long as it works for you guys - go with your instinct, hold him close and just because your friends don't parent like that, or it doesn't say it in a book, well it doesn't matter if you're all ok and coping. I wish I'd known what I know now before I had Hattie - I was half way there, but kind of brainwashed by the Baby Whisperer type books (I knew instinctively that Gina Ford was not for me!). Our society is very focussed on routines and baby fitting into mum's life - actually I think, in the early days at least, that we need to fit our lives round the needs of our babies and letting go of preconceptions about how things 'should' be done can be really liberating (especially if you've got a high need baby).

Take good care, we're here for you!

Love Briony

Here is some info from the Baby Centre:
http://www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/sleep/cosleepingsafely/

This is a link to the Notts NHS info, its quite long!:

http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=6&ved=0CGIQFjAF&url=http%3A%2F%2Fnottinghamchildhealth.org.uk%2Fclinicalguidelines%2FEmergency%2F1.16%2520Bedsharing.doc&ei=AySVT4G2K9Ou8QPrvqjODA&usg=AFQjCNEK8D-eu4tWrUmhk8CLTsxDj5NH8g

Many parents choose to co-sleep - and following the guidelines is really important, as detailed above. Having a safe sleep surface (flat, smooth, nothing for baby to get trapped in/by - pillows and duvets should be avoided/lightweight re smothering) and ensuring baby can't get overheated is paramount - also smoking, drink, drugs or extreme tiredness should be factors that are taken into consideration which make co-sleeping definitely unsafe. Sleeping on the sofa with baby is considerably less safe than sleeping in a bed which has been prepared for it. Some families use co-sleepers really successfully too.

Hope that helps and doesn't just muddle you!

Love Briony

Hi Hutchy

Just a quickie as I've been in Wales all weekend and just got back sow i'll post in more detail when I can.

As Briony says you do what fits best for. I wasn't really a routine person either and the only real routine that I had was that I fed every 3 - 4 hours (not on demand) and and if we wanted to go out at night we did and just followed DS's bedtime routine whereever we were without the bath/washing bit and he would fall asleep whereever we were in his car seat (as long as it wasnt for more than an hour I think was the recommendations for car seat sleeping/sitting - if it was we would lay him on the settee or in his buggie)! I do remember having a few hours sleep with DS asleep on my chest but then a read a few scarey stories which put me off. I think if I was doing it again I would look for one of the 3 sided cots that fits onto the side of your bed - it would just make me feel that DS was safer in it IYKWIM! We just kept his moses basket right at the side of the bed and if he was disturbed I'd lay with my hand in his cot touching him - it usually worked. Even now he'll call me in the night and when I get there put my hand on him - alsmost checking that I'm there and he's 4.5 now!

As for coping and as Briony says - a loss, lots of tries at IVF and just IVF in general makes us all the more likely to suffer from PND so please look after yourself and if you feel you're not coping say something sooner rather than later. I have a friend who had a couple of miscarriages, lost a baby boy at 6 months old and then got pregnant straight away and had a little girl - she fell apart a few months after she was born because she felt she wasn't coping and ended up on Prozaic for a v long time because she wouldn't admit she was feeling down. She still has to take Prozaic occasioanlly now for spells nearly 20 years on - so if you need it get help quickly.

As for settling - I kid you not as soon as DS got in his snow suit and strapped into his car seat he would drop to sleep withing in minutes - the warmth and feeling secure by being strapped in may have done it I don't know - and a run around in the car if it took longer than 15 minutes always got him nodding off - all worth a try! Obviously the snow suit would have to come off as soon as he was asleep Smile!

Hi to everyone - will be back tomorrow Smile!

Hello Ladies,

Hope everyone is keeping well. We are very quiet on here nowadays aren’t we. The great thing is we are all proberly busy with life & little ones.

Hutchy – The photo’s of Bobby Lee are gorgeous. I love the first one, so cute. Hope you are starting to find your way a little & falling into a little routine, which probably will change as quickly as it started. Thinking of you, take care & big squidges for Bobby Lee x

Rosemummy - Hope Esme & Alex have had a good few weeks & they are both better in themselves. It must be frightening for you when Esme has a seizure, how ever small it is. It would worry me to bits. Hope you haven’t had too many more wet days with the rain we have been having. It was the real world for me last week ,going back to work, got soaked taking Zach to friend’s then from car to office. I haven’t quite mastered how to carry Zach & an umbrella yet x

Robbo – Hope your little fella is better in himself & is also more settled. Have you been enjoying some weekends in Skeggy? Can’t be long now until your hol in Spain. I hope to visit my step-mum in Spain later in the year. Every time we speak on Skype she is basking in glorious sunshine grrr!

Julie – Hope you & the bump are keeping well. Is Cameron looking forward to being a big brother? Take care x

Love to Janette, Briony, Ali, Alex & Smellycat x

AFM – All is good here. Went back to work last week. Working 2 days + ½ day work at home. Zach was a little star with my friend & mum during the day. He was unsettled both nights on going to bed, but soon went off after a big cuddle. So all in all the return to work hasn’t been too painful!!

Love Nicky xx

Hi ladies

Yes Nicky very quiet. We still have one delivery though - Julie where are you you've been absent from here for a while although have seen other posts from you. An update would be good Smile!

Nicky - yes we are getting ready for our hols in Spain - Friday in fact Smile!!!! Yipee - can't wait just hope weather is good - although I'm sure it can't be any worse than we've got here at the mo!!! DS settled much better at school thanks. Just had confirmation that he's got into our first choice school so we're happy. But when I told DS he started to cry cos he doesn't want to leave his teacher and class now Sad! Tried to explain that it's still in the same school just a new class for bigger boys and girls cos the babies will be moving into his class - still not sure he's convinced though bless him! Horrible returning to work - but glad things went as smoothly as they could - and it's only 2 days per week Smile! Needs must if we want to give our LO's and ourselves the nice things in life. Plus I think it gives a good impression for our children - that we have to work to get things.

Rosemummy - hope you're all well. Sorry I feel like we've slipped off the planet - still not had our meet up! Will have to get one in before the kids break up for the hols!

Hutchy - how are you 3 - settling a little I hope? How's Bobby doing is he in more of a routine yet?

Janette - had a few trips to Skeg but mum and dad went alone last week and had to come home cos of the wind and rain - said it was way too bad to even venture out of the caravan on the Sunday!!!

Well AFM as I said all packed and ready for our hols on Friday! DS turning into a little monkey - getting cheekier by the day and growing like a little weed - can't keep pace with clothes and shoes!!! Just turned 4.5 years old and he's telling me his shoes are hurting him - went to get him measured and he's gone up a full size and is now an 11.5 Shocked Only had him measured a few weeks ago and he was only a 10.5!!! Certinaly not got my height Laughing We're still struggling with colds though and I'm not sure if DS has started again or if he has a bit of an allergy of some sort - glands still large but docs keep telling me they are OK and he's eating well and sleeping normally so not having a great affect on him - just hope it's something he'll grow out of Sad!! Scarey though.

Hi to everyone I've missed!

Right best be off and do some cleaning - the bain of my life!

Will try and get on before I go off on the aeroplane Smile!!!

Robbo - Bobby is settling more now and seems to be sleeping a bit longer in his basket at night which is a big difference...... Where are you off to on Friday, apologies if you have already said..... By the way we are both big Wigan Rugby fans and Bobby will be too lol..

Nicky - Hope work is going ok.. how old is Zach now, you need to put a ticker on so we can keep up with his age....

Briony - I looked at the co-sleeping information but don't really understand what to do, probably me being a bit thick, but hoping I don't need to try it as he seems to be a bit more settled in his basket now... thanks for the info....

Rosemummy - hope you are doing well and hope the twins have settled now after beng ill...

Julie - We need an update from you although I know things are ok with your facebook updates..

Janette - looks like the weather is improving now so you can get out for some good walks and I can too with the pram lol..

Hope everyone else is ok...

AFM, as mentioned, Bobby seems to be settling more in his basket now so I can get a few hours sleep in the night although he will sleep for 5 hours on me which is what he seems to want to do after his night feed.... DH went back to work last night and was dreading the night feed alone but it wasn't too bad... DH spoiled me when he was here at night cause I would change him whilst DH got the bottle ready and fed him....
I popped into work today too which is my first outing alone with Bobby and all went well, Bobby enjoyed all the cuddles...

Hutchy xx

Hi All
Sorry been AWOL just so busy
Hutchy Bobby is gorgeous, he looks like you I think. Glad things are getting a bit better, it doesn't last for long...only about 17 months ha ha LOL. We are OK, twins are better and Alex is a different child now he is on proper medication for his breathing, he has a review with the consultant at some point to discuss diagnosis of asthma etc but we are getting there. He has slept through the night for the last 3 nights so that is a big improvement. Esme has had a really sore bum, her teeth are coming through so she has been uncomfy I think.

Robbo yes we must try hard to meet, we have both been a bit pants haven't we? Glad you are OK and hope your holiday is lovely lucky you.

Nicky how are you? Work is OK isn't it? Well I think so anyway. Not so keen on getting soaked. I quickly learnt that umbrellas just make things harder so I just get wet.

Hi janette, hope you are OK. Weather has been rubbish hasn't it? Had a nice day on Monday though to be fair but that's all recently. Our grass needs cutting badly but it has been too wet to do it!

Anyway everyone, Julie how are you? I have to go as I have work to do but I have been feeling bad that I haven't posted for a while so just bobbed in quickly

xxx

Hi Ladies,

Hey! Hutchy, good on you for getting out on your own so soon with Bobby. It took me nearly 7 weeks to go out on my own with Zach. The first time I took him out in his pram to walk our dog. It was a gorgeous day. I felt so happy & proud, like I’d waited for this day forever. Every now & then I just couldn’t stop the tears running down my face. Thank goodness I had my sunglasses on!!
You seem to finding your way really well with Bobby, just take each day as it comes & do what feels right for you, Bobby & DH, and remember ENJOY!!

Hope you have found DH’s return to work ok. Is he able to help out with a feed when he gets in, so you can catch a few more Zzzzz’s. It sounds like you are doing really well, bet you still can’t really believe you’ve got bobby for real. Take care, suidges for Bobby xxx

Rosemummy – Great to hear from you. Always good to know that all is going well for you. I can’t even imagine the business of your life.
I’m so glad that Alex is on the mend & being a good boy going through the night. Long may it last. Poor little Esme & her sore botty. Zach hasn’t really suffered with this as yet. Although when he was cutting his top two teeth, I was surprised to see how quick his bottom started to show signs of soreness. Would be great to see an updated photo of your Lo’s. (Oh yes! & when am I supposed to make time for that, she says! Ha!). Take care x

Robbo – Only one sleep to go & you’ll be going away on your hols. I bet you’ll have some lovely weather. Lucky you, soak up those rays for me too please. So DS is becoming a cheeky monkey, Sounds like he is growing through a growth spurt. I think that maybe whenever DS is a little run down or unwell his glands swell. Mine often do. This morning they were swollen & my throat hurt. A couple of paracetamol seems to have done the trick for me.
That’s great that you have got your first choice of school. I’m sure DS will enjoy being one of the bigger boys. Anyhow have fun in the sun xx

Julie – Would be great to hear from you, I’ve seen you posting elsewhere now & then, so trust all is going well x

Janette – Shall we so a sun dance together? I am fed up with this rain & the grey dark feeling it gives, hope all is good with you x

Love to everyone else x

AFM -All is good here. Have had a good week at work. Feels like information overload at the moment, but I seem to be keeping up with it just about.
Zach unsettled on going to bed on both days, but another cuddle & trying in the cot again seems to be doing the trick. The good thing is he is having a really settled day & adjusting to going between 2 carers, he seems very happy & content.
I’m loving my time off with him. Anyhow, time to fit in a few household chores whilst the little fella sleeps.

Have a good bank hol everyone x

Love Nicky xx

Hi ladies,
Feel quite ashamed not been on for a while....

Been keeping up with Janette and Hutchy on FB.

Nicky, hope work is going ok? I know you said Zach was a bit unsettled. Is he getting better? It will be a bit of a shock for him when you go to work - albeit for just a few hours. He's used to having his mummy all to himself!

Rosemummy, glad Alex is mended now finally after the a/b's. I really wish GPs would listen to mummy's more. It really makes me cross - they don't always know better! Having said that; my GP was fab and picked up Cams vomiting was reflux straight away when I had no idea what was causing it - and he was 5!
I bet you're so so busy now you're working again and juggling everything like I know you do.

Hutchy, been following you on FB, so can see baby Bobby is going to explode with all the food ha ha! Oh well, if he wants it, he obviously needs it. I don't believe in starving babies.

Ali, I know you're really busy too jetting all over. I know what it's like to work full time and juggle a family. I was often torn and felt guilty for wanting to provide for my children; but the time I spent with them was quality time because it was so precious.

Robbo, hope DS is ok? I know you've had a few problems. Any more trips to Skeggy planned?

Briony, how are u and H? Will be bugging you when the twins arrive for BF advice. Thanks for the link to the site you posted. Very interesting. I'm considering getting a Medela supplementary feeding system too though in case things don't go too well....

Hi to Janette too.
Well 24 weeks today, so feeling a little safer, but won't relax for a while yet. Probably not till the babies arrive. They are both kicking about like crazy, and were estimated at 1lb each 2 weeks ago!
I am enjoying being at home, but a little bored. Had my leaving do at work yesterday.

Ive organised the LL lunch on Sat 19th May, 1pm at Malmaison in bham if anyone would like to come along.... Everyone welcome. You could meet the ENORMOUS bump!

Nicky - will soak up some rays if we get any - it's bad for the next couple of days apparently Grrrrr!!!! Yes DS's glands are up but he's also got a really sniffly nose but doesn't really seem like a cold IYKWIM - wondering if he has an allergy???? Will see how we go on hols and if no better will have him back to docs. Think I spoke to soon about Bobby settling in his basket!!! we had a few good nights but he has gone back to wriggling all over the place as soon as he is put in it.. I am hoping things will settle in a few weeks time.... He is also having a few problems with constipation so have had to give him a teaspoon of fresh orange with some water to help him as advised by MW and HV....

Robbo - good for you for telling them what you think in your appraisal, hope it helps things for you..

Julie - hope you are enjoying your time off and are not too bored like I was!!

Nicky - I am loving the walks with Bobby now in the pram especially when the sun is out... I have managed to get back into my size 12 jeans so need to do lots of walking with all the junk I am eating at the minute lol...

Rosemummy - glad things have settled with Alex, can't imagine how scary all that was for you, I dread Bobby getting ill, I am fretting about it already!! Hope Esme is feeling better soon..

Janette - hope you have a good time at your ball...

speak to you all soon

Hutchy xx

Hi ladies

Been a bit quiet on here so thought I would fill you in on my hols - now I'm back in sunny old England ha ha ha! Apparently had snow in Alton Towers today and in Buxton/Glossop!!!! It's May for crying out loud?*! The morning we left Spain it was 31 deg at 11.00 am - ooooh I miss that warmth (although in reality it was a smidge too warm!*?). I'm a creamer DP is a worshiper and we look like we've been to opposite ends of the world!!!! I'm nicely sunkissed whilst DP is almost mahogany!!!!! DS returned with a lovely snotty nose (sorry TMI!) possibly even tonsilitis looking at his throat and glands (which are even bigger!!!) and now feel like I'm starting - oh hum - 4th cold this year coming up then!!! Trip to docs tomorrow I think.

Hutchy - hope Bobby is a little more settled Smile????

Rosemummy - hope you and 3 littlies all ok (and DH of course!)

Nicky - have you booked your trip to Spain yet??? We had a lovely time - went to Benidorm for the day and was really surprised and then to Alicante which I have to say is beautiful and want to go back again Sad! Been looking for flights for USA first though Smile!!!!

Julie - sorry I'm really skint and won't be able to afford the lunch at the weekend - was hoping to be able to but just priced up train tickets etc and I'm looking at £60 - £70 for tickets meal and taxi and having just got back from hols need to pay off the visa and pay the electricity bill!!!! Hope you have a lovely time. Hope you're doing OK with everything pregnancy wise too Smile!??

Janette - DS on the way home on the plane said how many sleeps for Skeggy Rolling Eyes Bless him as DP says his life is one long holiday - and I say - Why not Smile????? Hope you had a lovely evening at your ball?

Sorry if I've missed anyone - not quite in normal mode yet - first day back at work today and kn*ckered!

Hello Ladies,

Sorry I have been a bad buddy of late, the days / weeks just seem to pass by so quickly. I can hardly believe it is nearly June already.

Robbo – Hope your break away isn’t feeling like too much of a distant memory. You & DP sound like me & DH. I always look sun kissed whilst DH goes very brown. Bet it was nice to feel those warm sunrays. How’s DS?, hope he is feeling better. There just seems to be continual viral infections going about, which I think seem to last so much longer than a cold x Take care x

Hutchy – How’s it going? Is Bobby more settled in his Moses basket? I hope Bobby’s constipation didn’t last too long. Luckily Zach hasn’t suffered with this as yet. Are you managing to go out for many walks? Good on you managing to get back in your size 12. I too managed to get in my size 12’s very quickly. I went back to my pre-birth wait very quickly. I think I hardly put on any excess weight as I felt so sick during my pregnancy. Take care x

Rosemummy – How’s you? Hope Esme & Alex are keeping well. I bet you feel like you never have a minute to yourself with 3 little one’s. Hope work is going ok & Esme & Alex continue to be settled in nursery x

Julie – The weeks are ticking away nicely for you. Glad you are enjoying being at home. Well you definitely won’t be feeling bored in a few months time. Have you been doing any baking lately. I found myself baking a lot when I was pregnant. Did you have an enjoyable ladies lunch? x

Janette – Hopefully it’s going to warm up this week, about time too!

Ali – Hope life is feeling less hectic for you x

Briony – How’s the lovely Hattie?

Alex - Hope allisgoing well for you. How old are your girls now ?

AFM – Well I’ve been feeling pretty run down now for 3 weeks. Yes still getting over a viral infection. Why do they last so long? Feeling fed up with it. Zach is coming down with a cold. Can’t complain though, this is only the 2nd time he has been poorly in nearly 10 months. Work is going ok. Don’t mind the going to work, just not sure about the job at the moment. Other than that all is well here x

Love Nicky x

Ladies I am so sorry I have not been on for such a long long time but it has been manic with the twins!
Firstly I notice Hutchy you've had a little boy can I say a massive massive congratulations and welcome to motherhood!
It's seriously only a quick one while my little ones nap - cant believe they are 6 mths old on Friday! Where has time gone? Joshua is huge now - 20lb - a far cry from the 5lb15 he was when he was born. Olivia who was the biggest of the two when they were born (6lb11) is now nearly 17lb. Both are doing really well - chatting, starting to sit up, drink from sippy cups and Olivia can feed herself with a spoon! we had a torrid time with Olivia at feb half term for 7 weeks with screaming and refusing feeds and a number of trips to hospital, through A&E and cau and after much fighting with th drs who though we were just barking mad, we have a daughter who is lactose and dairy intolerant! She is a much happier little girl now!
What a shock having twins was - good god! My life has been a whirlwind and I've not been too well but I'm on the mend and enjoying being a mum! I'm actually back to work in 6 weeks - only for a week though then its summer holidays. Can't believe I'm going back!
How is everyone anyway? Too many pages to flick through I'm afraid- got to get this cup of tea while I can lol
Hopefully I will get on in another 6 months lol

Smellycat, great to hear from you, I can't believe your twins are nearly 6 months old already!! I can't imagine how hard it is to look after twins when I am looking after one baby.. sorry that you haven't been feeling well but glad you are on the mend... Good for you for persevering with Olivia and glad she is happy again...

Nicky - Bobby has been a bit more settled in his basket now, however we have just put him in a travel cot as he is getting a bit big for his basket and he slept for 6 hours last night!! don't think he liked the hot weather too much as he wouldn't take all his bottle so wanted feeding more often.. not been out for a few days as the weather has been too hot for him... Hope you are feeling better after your viral infection....

Hi to everyone else, must go cause Bobby is stirring!!

Hutchy xx
