Hi
My son recently had this and was covered head to toe in them the doctor told me not to put any crams or lotions on him and to give him piriton and regular calpol, it worked a treat he very rarely scratched and none scared, hope your little one is feeling better soon x |

Thanks for your replies, thankfully they don't appear to be itching my little man too much, she says touching wood, he is handling them, and there are lots, really, really well I have calamine for as and when, am giving him paracetamol and piriton and he had a bath with bicarbonate of soda today. It seems that he really listened and took on board when told to try and not scratch
We first noticed them on Saturday morning when out shopping, at about 11am'ish due to him itching his belly but they are still appearing so when we are told 5 day incubation by the Dr, when is this from? When they stop appearing?
Thanks again

Aqueous calamine cream is really good.
Hope the spots go soon.

For some reason, Olly only scratched the ones in his hair?? Perhaps its because you can't really put stuff on those.
They had scabs on them for weeks and he kept picking them. Several other Mummies told me that its a prime spot for them to get infected, but they did eventually heal ok [with a lot of nagging from me!]

Incubation period = 14-21days (ie before any spots seen)
Infection period = up to approx 5d from last spot appearing which is when scabbed over.
I agree piriton can really help
Only thing to consider is if he had any contact with a pregnant lady - if so she would need a blood test to check immunity against it.
Hope this helps clarify

Hi there,
My 3 year old daughter went down with it on Sunday. When she went to bed on Satuday night there were no spots but when she woke in the morning they were everywhere.
She is very itchy and wants to scratch but even at her young age she knows not to, she just tries to get everyone else to do it for her.
She loved having a bath with bicarb of soda it it, it really seemed to ease the itching and she was more than happy to stay in it until the water got too cold.
Speedy recovery to any of you suffering with spots. |

When my two had it I also used Aqueous calamine cream and found it to be really good.

Thanks again ladies,
Thankfully we seem to be over the worst and Hector has been an absolute superstar, no scratching, just rubbing, and we have got through with baths with bicarbonate of soda, piriton and calpol. So proud of my little man just feel for him as he is soooo bored being off school but decided that we will keep him off this week and he can go back on Monday but he is starting to push boundaries out of boredom, roll on Monday, just praying that Tobey doesn't start next week
Heard tonight of another little girl in Hector's class who has them also and has been off all week too.....
We are good Rach thanks, hope you all are too xx
