Hi Dizzee

I was thinking of starting a thread for June / summer babies. I am due early June 2012. Where are you up to? Its a shame you are going through all this miles away from family and friends, but you are very welcome on here and will get lots of support. As you know the ladies who post on here are great and it really helps to have people to talk to who are going though the same experience

Hello Ladies,

I am glad you have set up a new thread, I love sharing with you all.

Dizzee - where are you from? It must be hard doing this all alone.
3w - how are you getting on?

I can't wait for our 12 week scan on the 11th, I am really looking forward to it and to be able to tell the world our news.

Also, it would be great to tell work colleagues. They are trying to get me to take on new projects and it will mean quite a bit of travelling to France, so it would be nice to tell them why I am being a bit reluctant. Hahaha! .....and all the trips to the loo during meetings!

I must admit that I am loving it at the moment, a little bit of nausea, a few headaches, a bit tired, but nothing too serious, I am loving it. I hope it remains this easy.

Take care all x
Sam

Hi all,

I had my 12 week scan yesterday which went well.
I am due 16th May but have a strong family history of still births at 38 weeks so may be induced early. I have to wait until I see the consultant on 29th December to find out what she suggests.

I had to tell work as soon as I found out as my job involves giving chemotherapy and although it is personal choice as to whether you continue I didn't want to take any chances so had to tell the managers and everyone else guessed when I started doing lots of clinics and no treatments.

Still have a few friends and family to tell, but starting to feel a bit more real now as putting on weight.

Finished those awful pessaries last night, thankfully.

Dizzee - welcome to the thread. It must be hard doing this without lots of support, we're always here for you.

Good luck with scan on 11th Sam.

catch up soon

Thanks Guy's,

I live in Washington D.C, it sounds glamorous but I miss the UK...especially my favorite foods Smile
I was told years ago after loosing my left tube I would need IVF, as right tube closed. I had IVF in England, but got BFN. Decided to consider egg share, but my American hubby and I was transferred here in Feb.

We saved for IVF here, only to be asked...why don't you try and open the tube first! I was told in the UK it is very controversial due to high risk of ectopic. Anyway to cut a long story short, had it in July and must have conceived in Aug Smile

We had a little blip in June, my HCG test came back at 66, but had a chemic m/c or ectopic that resolved itself? No one really knows. Anyways am a little over 10 weeks, had a scan at 8w 5d. HB 170bpm, all looked good....so maybe a toe out of the woods??

LTJ, I would have said no to chemotherapy too!! I'm a RN too, I worked with people with challenging dementia...would have had to have been transferred, or left as alway getting kicked and punched Sad fingers crossed for you...12 weeks is great though!

Sam, good luck for the 11th!! Us girls will want to hear all Smile

3wishes, thank you for your kind welcome xxxx

Dizzee

Hi Ladies,

I've been on the awaiting scans thread with most of you but I'll update for those who haven't been on the thread.

Me 28 and DH 41 have unexplained IF. We have just done our first IVF cycle as an egg share cycle donor Sep 2011. We got our BFP, although unfortunately our recipient got a BFN. I am due early June but haven't given my exact due date on here due to confidentiality. I'm not sure this still applies given the recipient got a BFN?

Had an inital scan at 7w+ and was all good, I have another booked next Tuesday when I will be over 9 weeks and NHS one on the 22nd November when I will be over 11 weeks.

I'm not feeling too bad either just sicky and tired, but ok and love having symptoms of pregnancy!

Most people at my work now know after the successful scan. I'm an chartered accountant in a big firm auditing, and we have work booked many months in advance so started needing to tell people really!

Dizzee - It must be difficult for you and DH going through all this on your own in the US. Congrats on your BFP.

It's amazing that the tubal surgery worked for you, makes me wonder whether my self diagnoses is wrong! Although we're officially unexplained I have scarring on the fallopian tubes which I think is causing the problems. I responded well and have had no other issues, didn't need ICSI, so I've been assuming that the scarring is causing the problems but maybe not!

LTJ/3w/Sam - lovely to see you here ladies!

Hi All,

I'm fine, I have a Dr's appointment on Friday. I'm completely pooping it!! It's my 11/12 week check up when they listen to babies HB, however crapping it incase they don't!!

Had ultrasound at 8w5d, all was well...but you hear some awful stories....On a funny note, my belly is getting hairy ugh!

Hope all was well

F&T - no it is just one! I only said they as a unisex title rather than putting 'it was' Smile How are you, I hope you are recovering - are you starting again in the new year? xx

Dizzee - I hope everything goes well at your appointment. I know how worrying it is, I was terrified yesterday despite having a perfect scan at 7w+. But I think if your scan was all ok you have a very good chance of everything staying ok - I think by 8w if HB seen your miscarriage risk is 4%. So to look at it another way its a 96% chance of being all ok.

I too have got the hairy tummy thing - glad I'm not the only one! I had to pluck a few black hairs out today - nice!! I'm usually a pretty non hairy person and have blonde hair on arms/legs so this is pretty weird...But all worth it!

Also I've been quite sick this week, had Monday off work as was throwing up all the time. Apparently this tends to peak at around 9-10 weeks so hoping it tails off soon!

xx

Hello all,

I am also really anxious about my scan on Friday.....People have been telling me it is normal to worry, but it doesn't help doesn't stop us does it!!! We have all had such a long road to get here (some people even longer and harder roads!) that I just don't know what I will do if the dream is over........ but I am trying to be positive, visualisation helps me, I imagine me and DH walking in the park, holding hands with our little one, I find it helps etc.

Ewwww to the hairy belly....I am going to the loo to check mine! LOL!!!!!!! I will be thinking of you Dizzee while I am having my scan! I will keep the other fingers crossed for you xx

Phoenix - 'they' do you mean arms an legs wriggling around?

Anyway, only another 48 hours for us!.......

Good luck xx

Speak soon ladies!

Morning all,

Just a note to let you know I'm 5 hours behind, my Doppler is at 12.45 (my Dr is always late) so that will be 17.45 GMT

Phoenix- I had all day sickness, it stopped for a couple of weeks. Now in comes back in awful powerful waves...crap isn't it..that and our hairy bellies Smile someone once told me, boys give beauty & girls take it it away Smile. Think I may start buying pink Smile Smile

Sam- good luck my lovely for Friday, I'll be thinking of you...just think of the lovely scan you'll get at 12 weeks! We're only having a Doppler Sad but as long as it reassures me I'm happy

Good luck ladies
Danielle

Dizzee - good luck for 17.45 today

I'd heard that about the boy/girl difference in appearance - so maybe we'll be team pink! x

Sam - no it is defintely just one! I just don't like calling baby 'it' and wanted a unisex alternative but maybe they was the wrong choice Smile

The hair is seriously un-attractive - I mentioned it to DH and he said 'yeah I'd noticed that'....talk about being sensitive with your pregnant wife Laughing . Hmmm is shaving your tummy acceptable?! Wink

Good luck for the 12w scan! x

What is a Doppler? Is that just checking for the heartbeat?

Guess I am having a girl then, cos I feel great, not saying I look it...but I certainly don't look much worse than before!!!!! ;o)

Although yesterday I did have a very close call. I was in Paris at a client meeting, started to cough, then choke, then gag and just managed to excuse myself from the meeting room just before I threw up in my hand! Very attractive!!! Hehehe! But apart from that I am only having the odd waves of nausea...a lucky girl!

Phoenix - What about going for the peanut, button, cupcake way of avoiding the 'it'.....

All this chat is getting me excited again, rather than worrying!!

Thanks xx

Hi Sam,

A Doppler is a little probe attached to a speak. They rub it on your belly to find the HB, and count Smile

I should have said mines Friday Smile

hi all,

Just had a little giggle about hairy bellies as mine is also hairy. I have also noticed that all body hair seems to be growing at an alarming rate, having to shave legs daily ( or wear trousers).

My sickness seems to have passed (unless I get really hungry) and tiredness seems a lot better, getting some stomach aches and wind from both ends Sorry TMI.

Dizzee how did doppla go? Hope all went well.

Hope everyones well.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Congrats Dizzee! Surprised)

Our scan didn't go too well. The nuchal measurement was 5, and it should be 1-2, so they referred us immediately for councelling. We are having a cvs/csv(?) test tomorrow to check for Downs Syndrome or heart defects. The initial indication will take a few days, but the full results will take a couple of weeks.

On a positive note the little baby was wriggling around and waving....sadly tears of happines quickly moved to tears of devastation Surprised(

It would be really good to hear if anyone else has had a positive result following a result like this!!!

Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Oh Sam,

I pray to God it's nothing to worry about...what did they say in the counseling? I mean did try give you figures...statistics or anything to reassure you?? Do some babies end up born healthy? It's vet difficult if you don't really understand it. I hope they are looking after you

All my love

Dizzee,

It was all a bit of a shock and I didnt absorb all the information, I was trying not to pass out with shock I think. DH seemed to remember alot more than me. Now that we have had a few days to consider the news, I now have a lot of questions to ask tomorrow.

It is horrible having to contemplate the different outcomes...something I had never even considered having to think about......and I have cried a LOT this weekend!!!! This is the first time I have really experienced the rollercoaster!

I have read a thread on here of a couple who went through a similar situation a couple of years ago and it made me fell less alone in it all. Fingers crossed it will all be ok.

The next few weeks are going to be tough while we wait for the outcome.

I hope you have had a lovely weekend celebrating and telling friends your good news!

Thanks for your support, speak soon xx

Sam - oh no Sad that must be so worrying, I hope you and DH are managing as well as possible. I really really hope that everything turns out ok. I found these stats on the web about the nuchal scan:

'The Scan is typically performed between 11 and 14 weeks gestation. It measures at the back of the fetus's neck, an area that appears as a black stripe down its back. This is strictly a screening test. A combination of measuring the nuchal fold and the mother's age will give insight into the possibility of Down Syndrome or other chromosomal abnormalities such as Turner's Syndrome. Researchers have found that 18% of fetuses with nuchal folds above 3mm had Down's Syndrome. The risk rose with the thickening of the fold - a measurement of 6mm meant 36 times the base risk. So, the overall risk for Down's Syndrome at 35 is around 1 in 270. If the fetus has a nuchal fold of 6mm, then its risk becomes 1 in 7.5.'

So as you can see it isn't a diagnostic test, rather it is a screening test which gives a risk. I know it shows the risk rising with a thicker nuchal fold, but there is a higher chance - 6.5 out of 7.5 if you are 35 - that baby will be fine.

I know this probably doesn't help Sad but I always want to know stats. My thoughts are with you, DH and baby xx

Dizzee - congratulations on your scan so glad everything was ok x

LTJ - glad your sickness has subsided and you are doing ok! I'm still a bit sicky but starting to feel a little better too x

Hi ya,

Thanks for the messages!

When I got to the hospital today they told me that based on the measurement on Friday the risk was 1 in 8, however with the results of my blood test that has now changed to 1 in 64. So my bloods must have shown something positive.

They say the CVS results will take a couple of days to come back and this will say 1 of 3 things, all ok, Downs, or a heart defect, however it will take 2-3 weeks to know the real details, although after a couple of days the results are 93% accurate. They will ring me as soon as they have them.

I feel much beter today, whether that is just because I feel like I have been able to do something, or because 1 in 64 sounds so much better, or just the shock subsiding, I'm not sure.

The CVS was ok, a little uncomfortable, but for us hardened IVF'ers what is another few needles between friends, they also gave me an anti D injection.

We also got some pictures today, which we didn't get on Friday Surprised)

So ladies, fingers crossed. Thanks for all your support! I hope you guys are all feeling well and keeping those hairy bellies at bay!!!

xxxx

Hi Sam,

Have been thinking of you...1 in 64 is alot easier to deal with than 1 in 8 phew! You must be very relieved. I know you still have to wait a little longer but, it's still going in the right direction Smile

Hope the good news keeps on coming
