| Hi ladies - hope you're all o.k?! Just letting you know the twins still haven't arrived so I'm booked in for a c-section on Thursday. I was hoping for a natural birth but the babies aren't in the right positions so it's too dangerous. Will keep you posted. Good luck to you all and take care xxx |

Hi all
Baby Samuel Paul finally arrived at 00.45 on Monday 23rd July. It was an eventful labour resulting in haemorrhaging for me but all ok now. We are at home now and life is good. I'm still v sore from episiotomy but I'll get there.
Sometimes I just look at him and burst into tears - I am so happy. Dh is smitten - we cannot believe our luck

| Great news Sally! As for me, baby Alexander Oliver was also born on 23rd, but at 00:06! Had to go to C section as my labour failed to progress - I was in delivery from lunchtime on Sat! We are also smitten with him and fant believe he's actually here and all ours. |

| Hi ladies! My twins arrived as planned at 36+6weeks on 26th July by c-section due to their positions. They are called Alyssa Faith and Finlay Jack and weighed 6.1lbs and 5.55lbs. The first week was a bit of a world-wind but we're starting to find our feet now. Short post as its feeding time in a minute but I'll be back on when I get time. Take care for now xxx |

hi everyone, my god i cant believe everyone has had their bundles and i've not been able to join in the joy (not had broadband for 6 weeks).
I'm so thrilled for you all and you have all chosen gorgeous names (nothing weird)!
Hope by now you are all settling in to your routines (or not) but hey it's just such a joy even to hear them cry isn't it?
afm callum still not in any routine but as long as he is eating and filling his nappy then i am not too worried at the moment. i have to remember that although he was born 12 weeks ago he was only due 5 weeks ago. he is still playing catch up with babies his own age.
He is only just fitting into his 0 - 3 month clothes, i look at his premature clothes and cant believe he was so small. at his last weigh in he has shot up to 11lb 9oz!
we have our review at the hospital tomorrow but i am certain they will discharge him from their care due his weight and he is very healthy (apart from a touch of colic).
we also have our 3-4 month health visitor reivew next week. it all seems to come at once. he has his 2nd imms injection in 2 weeks too.
went to baby massage yesterday and callum fell asleep before we could get starting , although non of the mums their got to do the full session, one needed feeding and the other wouldnt stop wriggling about, it was good though, i didnt think i would do the 'parent meeting' bit but it was funny to realise that callum would be going to school with the other 2 boys that were there.
how is everyone getting on with feeding? callum is now exclusively on formula but i have had to put him on hungry baby formula and he is still waking up every 2 - 4 hours for another feed. sometimes it can take over 2 hours to feed him and then he wants top ups for the next 2 hours and after that a full bottle because we have hit the 4 hour mark. i cant see this is right but the hv just says i have to feed callum when he demands it. i have a feeling i will be weaning the little man at 4 months!
also how do you all sort your bottles for the day? do you make them up as and when or make a few up at a time and what do you do when you go out for the day?
speak soon and well done again, big hugs to all the lovely babies from me and callum xxx |

Hi Jonson
Can't believe your little man is 12 weeks already. Samuel is only 2 weeks and 3 days but I'm already faing feeding dilemmas. Samuel is bottle fed too and I'm finding it quite are work to say the least!
With regards to making up the bottles I stuck to recommendations for the first few days making up fresh bottles each time - I.e boiling fresh water, waiting 30 mins etc. but ths sent me doolally- Sam was wanting feeing every 2-3 hours and sometimes shorter sometimes longer- how was I supposed to predict when to put the kettle on? It really got me down to be honest. So I canvassed my friends to see what they did as I was sure they had lives and went out - not being restricted to boiling kettles!
So now I do my own thing- I make up 4 or 5 bottles at a time - this way I know they Will be used weli within 24 hours. I boil the kettle and wait 15 mins ( I rang aptimal and they said the 30 mins was maximum allowed to leave the water though they absolutely recommend fresh bottles ( I didn't tell them my way)). After the 15 mins I add the required milk to each bottle - this way I feel happy the water is hot enough to kill any bacteria present in the milk. I then leave the bottles to cool for 10 mins and then put them in the fridge . I then heat one up in the bottle warmer as and when needed. I believe this is the way it 'used to be done' and does allow me a bit of a life. I am no way recommending that anyone does ths - its just what i do as i was unable to predict when my baby needs feeding and therefore when to put the kettle on.
Today has been our first real outing. I heated one of my pre warmed bottles at put it in an insulated bottle carrier thing - I made sure this was the first bottle I used. I then took two empty sterilised bottles and 2 aptimal cartons ( only used one). I also took a bottle with some cold boiled water in in case he was thirsty but more on that later. It seemed to work fine.
With regards to feeding I am finding I am feeding on demand but like you am questioning whether this is right or not but I suppose Sam is still only 2 weeks old . He can go 3-4 hours in the night but in the day is very erratic. Sometimes 1.5 hours and sometimes 3. He tends to want more and more often in the afternoon evening - I can't seem to fill him. I am on earned he is grazing and it will be hard to get him into a routine later but h midwife seems to thinkits normal
So on short it looks like we are in the same boat which means I have been no help at all! If you find any magic solutions let me know
Sally

sally i am really glad you said that, i make up a few bottles at a time, exactly like you. I read a few forums and asked my mum what she used to do and thought, well I never had any problems so............
I also take ready make cartons when I go out so at least you have put my mind at ease. after 12 weeks though its a little late if i was making him ill.
arw when callum was 2 weeks old i was unable to hold him or indeed see him as i was full of cold and the neonatal ward would not let me in. I bet samuel is tiny isn't he?
Callum had his hospital review today and he now weighs a whopping 12lb 5oz! i was concerned but the doctor says that callum is quite long and has a big head (takes after his dad) so he is in proportion. I know for sure that the health visitor will have something to say about his weight. I will just refer her to the doctor! The doctor has now discharged callum from his care so he cant have any concerns.

Sam is growing rapidly ! He was 7 pound 2 when he was born on 23rd July. Yesterday he was 8 pound 10! Not even three weeks yet. I just can't fill him and like you think hv will say it's too much too quick but I'm not sure what else to do when he is screaming. I always change his nappy when he tarts o it's not that, he burps and trumps like a sailor so am happy it's not trapped wind From about 5 until 8.30 he grazes and wants more and more. He wants to be held ll the time and won 't be put down. It's exhausting.
He then (usually) sleeps until about 12 and then its back to every 2-3 hours though the night.
Loving it though ( most of the time )
Sally

Hi ladies,
i cant offer any advice on feeding as we all do it our own way and as you both say yrs ago when our parents did it, it never did us any harm.
Lois feeds every 2 and half to 3 hrs in the day (5oz) and i can usually predict when she is getting hungry so i make up her bottles on demand if im at home and cool them in a jug of water if necessary, if i go out i make a fresh one just before i go and then i dispose of it if i havent used it within the recommended 2 hours. i also take cooled boiled water for her to have sips of and take a botte of cbw then heat it up and add milk powder if she needs it the bottle. i dont use the cartons as they constipate her and im a bit of a research freak and have read loads of stuff about them upsetting babies guts and them being harder to digest. But i know this is the minority, im just paranoid. hopefully that will subside as she gets older.
Lois is fab at sleeping at night, goes down at 10pm til 5.30 has 2oz then back to sleep til 7ish. im very lucky with her sleeping as my friends 4 year old still doesnt sleep through the night.
Lois was 8lb 10oz at birth now shes 7 weeks and is 12lb 2oz, but shes following her growth lines well so im not worried at all, she's also very long on the 92nd centile, so HV says she'll prob be tall when shes older.
She has her jabs next week and i have my check up. Still no period but im certainly not missing that.
Hope all is well with your babies

Hi Jo and Sally,
Hope you don't mind me crashing the thread- for the 2nd time! Lol, I've got a little girl who's now 4 1/2 weeks old. We did demand feeding at first and she'd eat about every 2-3 hours yet wouldn't finish her feeds quite often so we finally deduced that she probably just wanted something in her mouth for comfort. As much as I hate them, we've got her a dummy, and put her on the clock. Basically we won't feed her until at least 3 hours have passed between her last feed, and the next. This has worked really well for us, and she's way more settled. During the day she has feeds approximately every 4 hours, and we've also got the bedtime routine started (from when she was 5 days old!). This means when she has her evening 'meal' we give her half an hour to let it go down, bath her, let her kick about on her play mat, then top her up with about 2-3 oz. She's now started going for between 6-7 hours at night once we put her down, but this is from around 8pm so she then doesn't wake until between 2 and 3. She'll then take a full feed and sleep until between 7 & 8.
Obviously this wouldn't work for everyone, and is quite regimented, but has worked wonders for us. We also have a real day night divide- Lexi sleeps in an entirely different bed at night, and we swaddle her for it. We also don't speak to her at night, & so far she seems to be getting it. I also make up feeds in advance- did this for my lad too (he's now 7, & very robust).
Hope you're all ok
Lisa |

Hi Sarah - thanks for that. Sam is very hit and miss with his dummy - I just find it so hard when he is screaming! May try it today though - start at 2.5 hrs perhaps.
