Please help! I've been suffering terribly from a migraine since Saturday. Paracetamol isn't touching it (I would normally take Zolmitriptan when not pregnant) and I went to my GP in desperation today. He prescribed 30mg codeine to go with the paracetamol. It's taken the edge off the pain, but the dull nagging ache is constant Sad

I've been checked out at PAU, and babies are happy. No signs of PE. I just can't eat and I was wondering if there is anything I can take that is safe as its really getting me down. I can't function - and half term starts this weekend!

Any suggestions gratefully recieved. Can't take much more Sad

Oh Julie,

Sorry you are feeling so lousy. Hope Rosemummy sees your message soon. She's been a bit quiet of late. Maybe post on our thread, just incase she's only getting the chance to look in now & then, rather than general browsing. Big hugs & chin up. Pregnancy can make you feel pretty rubbish at times can't it. Know you feel rubbish, but you looked radiant at the LL lunch.

Take care x

Nicky xx

Thanks Robbo,
I'll see if I can find it, but have had a clear out and suspect it may have been deleted accidentally...

Hi julie. you cld increase the codeine to 60mg four times daily. watch for hard poo! zolmitriptan is a no and anti inflammatories are a no in the third trimester. continue paracetamol and up the codeine. the only other options are then morphine but that comes with its own probs but if short term at this stage unlikely to cause significant problems. sorry you are feeling so crap. and soz ive been quiet ive just been so busy i dont get chance to wee! Glad to see babies are fine do u know what you are having? Its the hormones causing the headache. let me know how you get on!

We're having one of each! Smile

I suffered really badly both pregnancies with migraines. I was advised top take codeine and yes 60mg at a time, van make you constipated as said above, but also can make baby go very sleepy. When pregnant with DIlys she would go still for hours after taking it, didnt affect Percy though at all.
Also other things can help too. 4head, have you tried that? Doesnt work on its own but did use it to help a bit, cold things, so if its cold outsid I would go and sit on the step at the front, or sit on the cold tiled bathroom floor. The other thing and it does sound a bit weird is a vibrating eye mask. It looks very weird but honestly is fabulous and really helps. Wouldnt be without mine now, in fact bought a new one a year ago as my old one broke. You can use it on your eyes and on the back of your neck and is worth its weight in gold.
Hope that helps a bit for you. x

Hi,

I found that the 'Kool n soothe' strips you can get for your forehead really helped me when I got pregnancy headaches. You can find them by the Deep Heat/pain relief stuff in supermarkets. Just a word of warning about codeine, one of the girls on the bb was kept in after her baby was born as they wanted to monitor the baby for a few days as she'd taken cocodamol during her pregnancy. It was just a precaution as it's an addictive substance.

Hope you manage to find some relief.

Thanks ladies.
Sharon, had full check up on mon with monitors for 20 mins - babies happy but not keen lol. GP repeated BP yest. It was within normal range; but high for me. 124/70 (mine is usually 90/50)

Moomin, thanks. Haven't been able to get out to pick anything up, but I upped the codeine to 45mg and it's helped.

Katy, I'm not planning on being on the codeine for long enough for it to have a lasting effect on the babies. Sounds like a bit of an overkill - but I suppose it depends how much she was taking and how close to delivery.

Feeling a bit better today. Spent all day in bed napping (lazy mare) and do feel better for it. Maybe my body was just telling me to rest? Have been very active and running about loads.
