Dr Amy Barrie

Dr Amy Barrie is the Group Scientific Director (UK) at Care Fertility. Amy is a Consultant Clinical Scientist, being one of a handful in the country that are Fellows of the Royal College of Pathologists.

Amy studied Physiology at the University of Manchester, followed by a Master’s degree in Prenatal Genetics and Fetal Medicine at University College London. Amy was awarded a PhD in 2017 entitled ‘Time-lapse Systems: Incubation and Annotation’. Amy has over 10 years’ experience within Clinical Embryology and has a special interest in time-lapse technology used throughout the Care Fertility Group laboratories. Amy has published a number of papers and book chapters on this topic and remains involved in research in this area, such as her recent research paper, ‘Can we optimise the time that we perform the fertilisation check in lab? Lessons learnt from time-lapse incubation’, which won an award at the Association of Reproductive and Clinical Scientists’ Fertility 2021 conference. Amy also takes a keen interest in the training of future embryologists by teaching on the Scientific Training Programme and assessing for the National School of Healthcare Science.

In addition to ensuring compliance with our regulators (the HFEA) requirements and the safe and effective running of the Care Fertility Chester and Liverpool laboratories, Amy is dedicated to ensuring the standard of care provided to all patients is of the highest possible standard.
