Cheryl and Jack's Story
I had long given up on my dream of having a family and thought I would never become a mummy. Then I met my partner, Jack. We were pretty content with the fact that we probably wouldn’t be parents.
I always watched on as everyone else had their own little families, it was hard but I’d grown to accept it. After about four years together, however it all changed & we decided we would try for a family.
I knew from the start we would need IVF. However, I was now 37 and scared time was not on our side.
There was never any doubt in what fertility clinic we would use. It could only be CARE. They seemed so far advanced in comparison to other clinics. So, we made the appointment for our consultation, then had our pre-tests etc done. We decided to delay our treatment until after our holiday, and when we came back our journey began.
The team at CARE Birmingham were amazing from the very start. From the receptionists to the admin team, the nurses the consultants & embryologists. Every single one of them. They always made us feel like we mattered.
We were lucky enough to get 5 top grade embryos and a positive on our very first transfer. We couldn’t believe it!
Unfortunately, our journey was not without lots of heartache. At 17 weeks we sadly lost our little boy due to an undetected infection & we were shattered but the support we received from CARE was amazing.
In time, we went on to have a frozen cycle, again we were lucky enough to get a positive test. This was in the midst of COVID and at a 12-week scan alone, I discovered our baby had Edwards Syndrome. We had to have a termination for medical reasons. Again, the support from the CARE team was amazing and our consultant Dr Rajkhowa never gave up on us and always filled us with confidence.
Unfortunately, then in February 21 we had our first failed transfer. Despite the heartache we had endured we weren’t prepared to give up and decided we would use the rest of our embryos before giving up on our dream of a family.
In April 2021, we had a single embryo transfer and we are delighted to announce on November 29th 2021, our baby boy finally arrived in to this world.
At the age of 39, I became a Mummy. Jack & I have the family we so desperately wanted.
Every day we pinch ourselves that our boy is finally here.
I always used to read testimonials and think that miracles only happen to other people, but they really do and can happen to you I’m so glad we chose CARE. And so thankful for them for making our dreams come true.
