Patient Stories: The Watson Family
“The whole team at CARE gave me my twin miracles. Now I can’t thank the world of science enough.”
Sophie Watson, a patient at our Care Fertility London knew she wouldn’t be able to conceive naturally.
“Before I started treatment I’d already suffered two miscarriages and two ectopic pregnancies, which caused me to lose both my Fallopian tubes,” she says.
“I also had a history of bad smears and had had treatment for pre-cancerous cells in my cervix twice. After all the losses and problems, I hit an all-time low and had to have counselling for health anxiety and mild depression. I was convinced I would never be able to have children.”
But, she continues, that’s when she came across Care: “With counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, and mindfulness, I managed to build up the strength to try IVF – and I was recommended Care London by a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist.”
Due to Sophie’s complex needs and her two previous miscarriages, Sophie’s consultant at Care Fertility London recommended a number of innovative tests that could help her to understand what was going wrong.
“We had the immune tests, C4M2 screening and pre-implantation genetic screening, as immune and genetic factors can sometimes be related to miscarriage,” Sophie says.
“While the C4M2 test came back negative, Care found I had an elevated level of thyroid peroxidase – and treated this with medication.”
“We had 11 embryos tested with PGT-A. The results showed that out of those we biopsied, four were chromosomally normal – so these were chosen for transfer.”
“With Care's fantastic extra tests and treatments our second attempt was successful. We only had one embryo put back, but it split – and on Christmas Eve I found out I was pregnant with twins. It was the best Christmas present we could ever have wished for.
