Mothers Day... it can be tough
Mother’s Day can sometimes be tough for women who are undergoing fertility treatment. With the vast amount of media attention and promotions on the build up to the day, it may sometimes make you feel somewhat isolated.
But it is important you know that you are not alone. There are lots of different ways to cope with the emotions you may be feeling and combat them with self-care, positivity and connecting with others going through similar experiences to you. Here are a few suggestions to help you this Mother’s Day.
Addressing your feelings
Honouring your feelings and being gentle with yourself is so important. Whilst you don't appear to have lost anything in a physical sense, for those who have experienced unsuccessful fertility treatments, you may find yourself feeling a sense of grief. Acknowledging these feelings can be useful means of managing and finding new positivity within yourself.
So this Mother’s day, be gentle with yourself, recognise that there may be difficult times, but remember to honour your feelings and do what is right for you. It’s ok to say no to events that you think may upset you, and sticking to the things that you know will make you happy.
Connecting with others
There is no doubt that mothers deserve to be celebrated, but when you are suffering with infertility it is something that may leave you feeling slightly separate from everyone else. Connecting with others in a similar situation via online forums and support groups will help you to realise that you are not alone. You may find that talking your feelings through with someone who understands may be beneficial to you.
Here at CARE, we have a range of support methods and networks that allow you to meet others going through IVF and related fertility treatments. If this is something you are interested in, you can find out more information here.
Self-care is one of the most important things you can do to help nurture both mind and body. When you are going through fertility treatment, it is easy to forget to look after yourself. Taking a long hot bath, treating yourself to wholesome meals, going for a walk or just taking some time for yourself can all help you feel positive about yourself and where you are in your life.
If you feel that you would benefit from talking to someone, please feel free to book yourself on to one of our support events, or get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
