Charles trained in Reproductive Medicine and IVF at the Middlesex Hospital and Bourne Hall clinic.
In 1989, he founded The Hewitt Centre in Liverpool and under his clinical directorship, it has become Britain’s largest NHS facility performing over 2000 cycles in 2016.
After 28 years in Liverpool, Charles joined CARE Fertility as Clinical Director bringing his wealth of knowledge and experience to the Group.
Charles served on the Executive Board of the British Fertility Society for many years and was Meetings Secretary for six years. He was also instrumental in establishing NHS funding for IVF in Cheshire, Merseyside and Wales.
Amongst his many other National and International roles, Charles was a Fellow on the Council of The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists from 2010 to 2016.
He was appointed Professor at the Post Graduate Medical Institute at Edge Hill University in 2012 and has established Mastership Courses in Advanced Fertility Practice for Nurses and Doctors alike, together with an active Research Programme.
As media spokesman for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Charles appears regularly on Television and Radio programmes and is in high demand as a public speaker. A BBC documentary of his work in Liverpool was broadcast in 2014.
