Dr. Salem Shawarby, Consultant and Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery

Dr. Salem Shawarby is a consultant and Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at Care Fertility London, as well as being the Regional Medical Director for London and Tunbridge Wells clinics. He joined Care Fertility UK in August 2022 after spending 8 years in the UAE. He has over 26 years of experience in the field of Reproductive Medicine; 15 years of which in the UK.

Between April 2019 and July 2022, Dr. Salem was the Regional Medical Director for the emirate of Abu Dhabi at Fakih IVF centres; the largest private provider of fertility services in the UAE. Dr. Shawarby was overseeing the fertility services provided across the 3 centres in Abu Dhabi region which were performing about 4000 IVF cycles/year. Prior to that and between September 2014 till March 2019 Dr. Salem was the Medical Director of Corniche Fertility Centre from where he established, developed and successfully ran the IVF services at the reputable Corniche Hospital- the largest and oldest Government maternity hospital in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Prior to moving to UAE, Dr. Shawarby gained a broad range of experience by working in 5 Assisted Conception units of some of the UK’s leading University hospitals. He was a NHS Consultant in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery in the UK at the Wolfson Fertility centre, Hammersmith & Queen Charlotte’s Hospitals, Imperial College London between 2012-2014. At that time, he also simultaneously ran his own private clinic at the prestigious Harley Street, where he used to treat patients from both the UK, as well as overseas patients from different parts of the world.

He started his career in Reproductive medicine by obtaining a clinical research fellowship at the Wolfson Fertility centre, Hammersmith & Queen Charlotte’s Hospitals, Imperial College London between 2003-2004. He then completed his general obstetrics and gynaecology training at the prestigious London Deanery rotation working in some of its well-known teaching hospitals from 2004-2008. Dr. Salem then became a RCOG Accredited Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery after completing a Subspecialty fellowship at University College London Hospital/CRGH from 2008-2010. He has also previously worked at the IVF units of Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital, and then later as a consultant at the University Hospitals of Leicester and Southampton in 2011.

Dr. Salem has MSc, MD in reproductive medicine in 1998 & 2002 respectively, and has been a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, London since 2000. He is also a member of the RCOG Reproductive Medicine Clinical Studies Group and the British Fertility Society.

Dr. Shawarby is the author of more than 30 peer-reviewed papers published in top medical journals in the field of Reproductive Medicine, as well as various abstracts, articles in newspapers and magazines, book chapters, videos on social media, as well as TV interviews in IVF.

He has organised, presented and chaired sessions at several national and international fertility conferences and meetings. His current clinical and research interests include: ovarian reserve tests, assisted conception, optimising ovarian stimulation protocols and the outcome of IVF, recurrent miscarriages, recurrent implantation failure and pre-implantation genetic screening & diagnosis.
