Male Fertility Tests and Assessments

Our male fertility assessment is a good place to start if you want information about your fertility, or if you have been trying to conceive and it's taking longer than you'd hoped.

Male infertility can be affected by a number of different factors. For instance, 1 in 20 men can be affected by sperm inefficiency. Find out 5 things a man can do to prepare for IVF.

We perform a thorough analysis of your semen. We check sperm motility, sperm count, volume and shape which can all have an impact on your fertility. We also review your diet and lifestyle, to assess whether any changes could a positive impact on your fertility. If your results show that you have a fertility issue, your doctor will advise next steps.

What does a male fertility test involve?

At your male fertility assessment we’ll look at both your general and fertility health and take you through a few key tests. We'll take note of any existing medical conditions, look into your andrological history and explore any known problems that could be relevant.

We’ll focus on:

Studies show that if your body mass index (BMI) puts you in the underweight, overweight or obese categories, this could be affecting your fertility.

Your general health is closely linked to your fertility health, so we’ll be checking to make sure your blood pressure is within the recommended guidelines.

We'll take note of any existing medical conditions and explore any known problems that could be relevant. We might suggest further tests or make other recommendations based on our findings.

Our scientists will examine your semen sample for sperm, measuring the number, shape and movement amongst other things. Depending on what we find, we might recommend some more tests. You can learn more about semen analysis.

Your lifestyle can make a big difference to your fertility. Your doctor or nurse might suggest changes to your exercise or diet to help you get in the best possible shape for your journey with Care.
